Job summary

Ford Energy in Dearborn, MI is seeking an Embedded Software & Cybersecurity Engineer to design, secure, and maintain firmware for BESS systems. You will own low-level code, security architectures, and OTA updates, collaborating with Ford teams to ensure safe, reliable grid-scale storage solutions.

You will work in a hybrid environment with cross-functional teams, focusing on SOC/SOH algorithms, secure communications, and vulnerability mitigation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant technical field.
• 5+ years of embedded firmware development experience (C/C++, RTOS, microcontrollers) in BMS or battery electronics.
• Experience in embedded software, controls, or firmware development in energy storage, EV, or renewable energy domains.
• Experience with TARA, cybersecurity architecture, and software-level security requirements.
• Demonstrated secure embedded design (Secure Boot, cryptography, bootloaders).
• Hands-on debugging with JTAG/SWD, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers; unit/HIL testing experience.
• Strong communication skills enabling cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain embedded C/C++ firmware for BMS controllers.
• Architect secure-by-design firmware with secure boot and modular layers.
• Implement secure OTA update and field upgrade capabilities.
• Lead cybersecurity risk assessment (TARA) for battery electronics and firmware.
• Develop secure CAN, SPI, Ethernet stacks and SOC/SOH algorithms.
• Debug firmware with JTAG/SWD, perform unit and HIL tests; address vulnerabilities.
• Collaborate with software, controls, and safety teams to align with safety and security standards.
