Illinois State Police – Division of Forensic Services seeks a detail‑oriented Forensic Scientist II to perform routine and complex analyses of controlled substances, cannabis, and related evidence in the Drug Chemistry Section. Under supervision, you will review peers' case files and assist with statistical reporting.

You will keep current with forensic literature, support supervision, and travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in natural science with a minimum of 60 semester hours in chemistry.
• Requires three (3) years of professional forensic science work.
• Preferred: 3+ years in Drug Chemistry casework and evidence examination.
• Preferred: experience communicating findings in writing and in court.
• Preferred: knowledge of state, federal, and local crime laws related to forensic examination.
• Preferred: laboratory equipment maintenance, calibration and quality control.
• Preferred: literature search and scientific research in forensic science.

Responsabilités

• Independently conducts routine and complex forensic analyses of controlled substances, cannabis, intoxicating compounds and related evidence in Drug Chemistry.
• Technically reviews peers' case files and reports for accuracy and completeness.
• Assists supervisor by preparing statistical reports on cases and related activities.
• Keeps abreast of current forensic literature and developments in the field.
• Performs other duties as required within the scope of duties.
