(Hybrid) Director of Maintenance - Facilities and Services

Description

The department of Facilities and Services at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Director of Maintenance.

About the Opportunity

This position oversees all activities necessary to operate the maintenance organization, providing leadership and guidance to a large, diverse group providing complex technical services.

What You'll Do

  • Foster a culture aligned with WVU's values of Service, Accountability, Respect, and Appreciation, ensuring safety for all campus users.
  • Manage maintenance of facilities valued over $2 billion, ensuring continuous operation.
  • Develop and manage budgets exceeding $7 million for main campus and $1 million for HSC campus, ensuring effective use of funds and cost reduction strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with laws, policies, and regulations.
  • Oversee campus utility consumption, energy conservation initiatives, and performance contracting.
  • Lead a 24/7 maintenance team, ensuring proactive maintenance, performance metrics, and customer satisfaction.
  • Develop long-term deferred maintenance plans, prioritize projects, and manage funds accordingly.
  • Create SOPs and training programs to standardize processes and ensure policy compliance.
  • Support construction standards, project reviews, and maintenance planning for the Health Sciences campus.
  • Support regional campuses with operational assessments and planning.
  • Coordinate with external partners on operational matters and manage ongoing projects within budget and timeline constraints.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, business/public administration, or related field.
  • At least 8 years of experience managing large teams and budgets, with expertise in campus facilities and infrastructure management.
  • Equivalent education and experience will be considered.

  • Leadership in large, diverse teams with focus on safety, service, and fiscal responsibility.
  • Facilities operations, budgeting, and reporting knowledge.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.
  • Customer service and process improvement skills.
  • Effective communication and training abilities.
  • Knowledge of building codes, construction contracts, and maintenance best practices.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Valid driver's license
