Job summary

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) is hiring a Software Engineer II for the Data Platform team in a hybrid San Diego setting, with some remote work options for onsite travel. You will help build scalable data platforms powering PlayStation experiences for millions of users and creators.

You will work across engineering and product teams in an agile environment, using modern data tech and platforms. The role emphasizes performance, reliability, and scalability, with opportunities to work on

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
3+ years of experience building scalable distributed systems.
Proficient in Scala, Java, or Python.
Experience with cloud-based applications/services (AWS preferred).
Exposure to event streaming platforms such as Kafka, Kinesis, or SQS and data ingestion.
Familiarity with distributed data processing frameworks like Spark or Flink.
Understanding of CI/CD, monitoring, and observability.

Responsibilities

Contribute to development, testing, and deployment of high-quality code across the data platform.
Collaborate with global teams across multiple time zones to ensure alignment.
Support capabilities for data cataloging, analytics, and ETL/ELT pipelines.
Identify performance bottlenecks and implement improvements with guidance from senior engineers.
Build and support services handling structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data.
Participate in on-call rotation for production support and issue troubleshooting.
Contribute to platform documentation for internal users.
Present work in team demos and internal discussions.
Follow best practices in testing, monitoring, and deployment for reliability.
Continuously learn and apply new data platform tools and patterns.
