Job summary

Penn State University’s Applied Research Laboratory in Warminster, PA, seeks a Cyber Security Engineer to help protect ARL’s networks and systems. You will verify compliance, implement security plans, and coordinate risk assessments across development, test, and production environments.

The role emphasizes proactive security measures, vulnerability management, and security operations, with DoD/IC stakeholders and an intent to support Navy/DoD/IC missions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Knowledge of NIST and DoD regulations is beneficial
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

Responsibilities

• Aid in development and submission of security plans and authorization packages
• Conduct risk assessments across development, test, production and research environments
• Perform vulnerability scanning, log review, and incident response on an as-needed basis
• Administer and harden Windows/Linux systems per DISA STIGs across physical and virtual environments
• Operate virtualization platforms (VMware/Hyper‑V) and manage AD accounts
• Monitor network health, respond to alerts, and perform root-cause analysis
• Deploy Splunk forwarders and develop searches, alerts, and dashboards for cyber operations
