Harris County Auditor's Office in Houston seeks a Staff Auditor to join the Compliance Audit Department, performing a variety of audit and compliance activities to strengthen accountability across county operations.

The role blends independent work with collaboration across departments. Candidates should have 0-2 years' experience, a relevant degree, and solid communication and analytical skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance or related field.
• 0-2 years of relevant work experience.
• Basic knowledge of internal auditing.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite, with basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and critical-thinking ability.
• Ability to plan, organize, and follow through on tasks in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

• Execute audit engagements in line with Global Internal Audit Standards, Local Government Code, regulations, and county policies.
• Serve as liaison between audit team and client departments, building professional relationships.
• Perform fieldwork activities, including audit testing and client interviews.
• Work with the audit team on multiple concurrent engagements.
• Develop audit observations and recommendations with root-cause remediation.
• Draft concise, timely, factual audit reports.
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Complete administrative tasks and planning of assigned work.
• Provide support on special projects or administrative assignments.
