Job summary

Wood Smith Henning & Berman LLP in Chicago is hiring a skilled legal assistant in civil litigation. The role requires 3–5 years of law firm experience, with a preference for insurance defense. The position is hybrid: in-office 2 days a week and remote 3 days weekly for the greater Chicago area.

You will support multiple attorneys, manage calendars, filings, and communications with outside firms, and assist with trial preparation in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience in a law firm setting.
• Insurance defense experience is highly preferred.
• Hybrid work model: 2 days in the office and 3 days remote from home for greater Chicago area.

Responsibilities

• E-filing in Illinois state and federal courts.
• Maintain attorneys' calendars and schedule meetings, depositions, mediations, and travel.
• Coordinate with outside law firms to schedule depositions and meetings.
• Prepare and proof correspondence, pleadings, discovery, and motions; finalize shell macros.
• Prepare and file pleadings and discovery documents with attorney consultation.
• Open and close legal files; manage general correspondence with clients and carriers.
• Record and track deadlines via docketing and calendar systems.
• Assist multiple attorneys and support trial preparation.
