Job summary

State of Illinois, Department of Children and Family Services in Galesburg, IL, seeks a structured and dedicated Deferred Assignment Child Protection Specialist. You will receive and investigate reports of alleged child abuse/neglect within mandated time limits and assess immediate safety of children.

Qualifications

• Requires either master’s in social work or related field with related experience.
• Bachelor’s in social work with related experience accepted.
• Must be able to travel and pass a background check.
• Ability to work in a 24-hour on-call capacity and handle irregular hours.

Responsibilities

• Receives and investigates reports of alleged child abuse/neglect within mandated time limits.
• Assess the immediate safety of children and initiate appropriate levels of child protection.
• Prepare and maintain a variety of reports, assessments, and case documentation.
• Determine placement needs and coordinates with substitute care facilities.
• Attend multi-disciplinary staff conferences to assess needed services.
• Conduct transportation of clients when necessary and handle placement changes.
