Job summary

The Hanover Insurance Group in Michigan is seeking a Consultant Casualty Claims to manage a moderately complex caseload from intake to resolution. This full-time, exempt role offers a hybrid schedule (two days in the office) in one of our Michigan offices.

You will conduct investigations, assess liability, set reserves, negotiate settlements, and communicate with claimants, legal representatives, and third parties while mentoring junior handlers and coordinating with underwriting and legal

Qualifications

• Associate degree required; bachelor's degree preferred or combination of education and experience.
• Typically has 1-4 years of relevant claims handling experience.
• Independently execute indemnity, medical, litigation/resolution management.
• Proficient with basic MS Office and internet navigation.
• Learn and handle negotiations within authority and apply bargaining tactics.
• Knowledge of various types of insurance products.
• Conduct thorough investigations and gather evidence.
• Provide empathetic customer service and handle routine inquiries.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of moderately complex casualty claims from intake through resolution.
• Conduct thorough investigations, assess liability, and evaluate damages.
• Collaborate with underwriting, legal, and stakeholders to ensure claim evaluation.
• Identify and refer potentially suspicious claims to the Special Investigations Unit.
• Apply comparative negligence laws and state-specific regulations.
• Set reserves and authorize payments within authority.
• Communicate with claimants, legal representatives, and third parties to negotiate resolutions.
• Mentor entry-level claim handlers and share best practices learned through training.
• Attend ongoing training and maintain licenses.
