Job summary

Harris Beach Murtha Cullina PLLC is seeking an associate to join its Mass Torts and Industry-Wide Litigation team, focusing on asbestos defense across New York state offices in Syracuse, Ithaca, Buffalo, Albany and White Plains with a hybrid work setup. The role requires 2+ years of asbestos defense litigation, NY and NJ bar admissions, and a JD from an ABA-accredited law school.

Excellent research, writing and verbal skills are essential, as is the ability to manage complex toxic tort matters

Qualifications

• 2+ years of asbestos defense litigation experience is required.
• Admission to the New York and New Jersey bars is required.
• Juris Doctor degree from ABA-accredited law school.
• Familiarity with Zoom, MS Teams, and other video platforms for depositions, court conferences, and hearings.
• Excellent research, writing, and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Take and defend depositions of plaintiffs and fact witnesses.
• Research legal, procedural, and scientific issues and assist senior attorneys with strategy.
• Draft responsive pleadings, memoranda, briefs, and significant motions including motions for summary judgment and discovery motions.
• Prepare reports to clients, including deposition reports, litigation status reports and case analyses.
• Represent clients at courtroom appearances, including oral arguments and discovery conferences (in-person and virtual).
• Maintain a minimum of 1900 billable hours annually.
