The role targets a recent or soon-to-be-completed PhD with deep expertise in advanced AI areas, capable of building reproducible research and communicating results to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications

Pursuit or completion of a PhD in CS/AI/ML or related field.
Experience developing and evaluating models in Python with ML frameworks.
Strong foundations in ML/DL with optimization, statistics, or numerical methods.
Ability to design experiments, select metrics and baselines, and communicate results.
Willingness to work on-site or hybrid in Mountain View, CA.

Responsibilities

Conduct original research in AI areas such as causal AI, neurosymbolic AI, world models, multimodal or generative AI or engineering agents.
Translate engineering and scientific challenges into well-defined research questions, hypotheses, algorithms, and experimental plans.
Design, implement, and evaluate machine learning models and proof-of-concepts using real, simulated, experimental, or engineering data.
Develop methods that can reason about physical systems, uncertainty, constraints, temporal evolution, or complex interactions among components.
Collaborate with GM R&D researchers and engineering partners to validate results and identify pathways from POCs to practical use.
