Job Description

Job Title: Hy-Chi Department Cook

Department: Hy-Chi

FLSA: Non-Exempt

General Function

As an Hy-Chi Department Cook, this position is responsible for preparing various foods for the Hy-Chi department, including hot and cold cases. You will also ensure a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service to customers and team members.

Reporting Relations

Accountable to: District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, Health Wellness Home; Food Service Director; Hy-Chi Department Manager; Assistant Hy-Chi Department Manager; Service Managers

Positions reporting to this role: None

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service, exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all interactions.
  • Greet customers warmly and learn their names when possible.
  • Assist customers by guiding them to products, securing out-of-reach items, loading/unloading heavy items, and passing along suggestions or requests.
  • Answer phone calls promptly and courteously.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
  • Prepare wok dishes: cleaning, heating, adding oil, cooking soups and meats, preparing vegetables and sauces, and combining ingredients.
  • Place food in hot cases, monitor, and refill as needed.
  • Order supplies when necessary and notify department head of needs.
  • Clean work area at the end of each shift.
  • Fill cold case with fresh food and prepare items for the next day.
  • Understand all aspects of the Hy-Chi kitchen operations.
  • Maintain strict adherence to hygiene and dress standards.
  • Follow company policies and store guidelines.
  • Report to work on time as scheduled.
Secondary Duties
  • Check rice as time permits.
  • Take customer orders at the Hy-Chi counter when needed.
  • Assist in other store areas as required.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Basic math skills: add, subtract, multiply, divide.
  • Ability to understand verbal and written instructions, request supplies, and communicate effectively.
Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent; training provided.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
  • Visual acuity from more than 20 inches to less than 20 feet, with or without correction, including color vision.
  • Physical activities include balancing, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, finger dexterity, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Working Conditions

Exposure to noise, temperature extremes, and cleaning chemicals. Fast-paced environment with deadlines.

Equipment Used

Wok, cooking spoons, buckets, knives, cutting boards.

Contacts

Daily contact with store personnel, customers, and the public.
