Position Overview

SCOPE OF ROLE:

As part of the S:US Veterans Services, the Employment Specialist assists participating veterans with obtaining and maintaining sustainable employment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducting outreach activities to identify, screen and enroll participants into the program
  • Providing employment related case management services such as assessment, community integration, and employment linkage
  • Developing and delivering internal trainings and presentations related to the veteran community highlighting the benefits of employment and opportunities
  • Collaborating with Veterans Services staff and participants when developing and updating Individualized Employment Plans
  • Conducting job readiness assessments and providing appropriate skills training such as resume development, interviewing skills and job search techniques
  • Providing career/employment counseling and job coaching and working one-on-one with clients on job retention
  • Cultivating and maintaining relationships with prospective employers to generate and identify employment opportunities
  • Collaborating with CUNY Employment and other partners regarding veterans education and training
  • Connecting with outside resources such as America’s Job Centers, vocational training schools, and community-based organizations to ensure clients have access to available services
  • Interpret and apply data generated by vocational assessments.
  • Additional duties as requested from time to time by management.

  • Critical Evaluation: Ability to generate ideas for service improvement for discussion within multidisciplinary teams and with individuals and their supports.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and contribute to the leadership that creates a fun work environment where the multidisciplinary team supports one another.
  • Self-Motivated: Ability to demonstrate initiative and endeavor to maintain a stable level of productivity.
Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree desired; combination of education and experience considered.
  • Minimum of three years’ human services or customer service experience preferred.
  • Veterans strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Computer literate, MS/Word & Excel. Demonstrated experience in the vocational rehabilitation field. Substantive experience working with veterans is preferred.
