Job description

What you will do

Johnson Controls Inc. is seeking forward-thinking talent to support our rapidly expanding HVAC business across North America.

During these unprecedented times, JCI is dedicated to the health and safety of all employees, customers, partners, and communities we serve.

At Johnson Controls, you'll have the opportunity to work with light commercial and heavy commercial teams, utilizing the most advanced heavy commercial and industrial equipment. Our talented team members drive our success, and we value being open, collaborative, results-oriented, hardworking, and above all, having fun.

How will you do it

We are looking for skilled HVAC Mechanics with practical experience in their trade, including HVAC piping, plumbing, pipefitting, and/or mechanical equipment service. Mechanics should have hands-on experience with light commercial or commercial mechanical equipment and may need to pass a skills assessment. The scope of work is limited to commercial HVACR service, and mechanics may collaborate with Journeymen in repairing centrifugal, steam turbines, and open-drive screw chillers. Responsibilities include maintenance, repair, and replacement services on commercial heating and cooling systems.

We offer factory certification through our Service Technical Academy (STA), along with recognition, monetary rewards, and career advancement opportunities. Our incentives focus on employee safety. Additionally, we provide necessary tools, uniforms, and a company vehicle to ensure you can perform your duties effectively and deliver high-quality service to our customers.

Your role involves providing excellent service to resolve facility inefficiencies and service issues. As a trusted advisor, you'll offer solutions and outcomes during commissioning and aftermarket service, including upselling opportunities. You'll also prepare quotes to support your recommendations and solutions.

What we look for

Required

  • Be a dedicated team member willing to learn and responsible for troubleshooting, repair, and aftermarket services in a fast-growing business.
  • Membership or willingness to join a local Union.
  • At least three (3) years of experience in commercial and/or industrial mechanical troubleshooting within the HVAC industry, including rooftop units, pumps, fans, towers, boilers, chillers, compressors, and plumbing.
  • Mechanical shaft alignment skills using dial indicators for pumps, fans, and compressors.
  • Experience with vibration equipment for troubleshooting drivelines.
  • Willingness to travel 10% to 20% to support customer activities, troubleshooting, installation, and repair.
  • Ability to pass a knowledge examination to demonstrate proficiency.
  • Interest in career development with training programs to enhance HVAC product knowledge and sales quoting skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with local mechanics, servicemen, and apprentices.
  • Strong interpersonal, digital, and written communication skills to accurately diagnose and communicate problems, causes, and corrective actions.
  • Ability to provide quotes and participate in JCI’s Service Plus Rewards program.
  • Self-motivated with a passion and desire to learn and apply new skills.
  • Commitment to safety in all aspects of work.
  • Possession of a Universal EPA refrigerants license, applicable state or local licenses, and a valid driver's license.
