Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking experienced HVAC Technicians to service air- and water-cooled chillers and industrial units across North America. The role emphasizes safety, diagnostics, and customer-facing problem solving in fast-paced environments.

You will perform commissioning, troubleshooting, and repairs, with opportunities for career growth through our STA program. A company vehicle, tools, uniforms, and ongoing training support are provided.

Qualifications

• Eight+ years of experience on air- and water-cooled chillers and large HVAC units.
• Able to repair centrifugal compressors and ammonia/hydrocarbon system components.
• EPA refrigerants license and valid driver's license.
• Safety training in ammonia/hydrocarbon handling is required.
• Strong written and verbal communication for customer problem resolution.

Responsibilities

• Service and commissioning for HVAC plants, including chiller systems.
• Provide quotes to customers and support sales quoting activities.
• Collaborate with local mechanics and train junior technicians as needed.

How will you do it

We are looking for skilled HVAC Technicians who have experience with air cooled and/or water-cooled chillers, Industrial chillers, AHU's or large roof top ducted units. Preferred experience in Industrial Petro-Chemical, or Data Center vertical environments. Provide our customers with the highest level of service to solve facility inefficiencies and resolve service-related items. As a trusted advisor to our customers, you will provide solutions and outcomes at the time of commissioning and aftermarket service. Provide recommendations and solutions to ensure facility is running efficiently to include upselling opportunities. Provide quotes to support recommendations and solutions.

What we look for

Required

• Minimum of Eight (8) years of practical working experience on air cooled and/or water-cooled chillers, industrial chillers, AHU's or large roof top ducted units with strong HVAC/ mechanical troubleshooting experience.
• Able to repair centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, screw chillers and/or ammonia / hydrocarbon system components.
• Maintain ammonia and hydrocarbon safety training certification.
• Extensive experience in HVAC systems, (Chilled water loops, Pumping, Compressor enthalpy, Compressor trouble shooting and rebuild.
• Mechanical shaft alignment using dial indicators, lasers, etc. of pumps, fans, Compressors.
• Able to use vibration equipment to trouble shoot compressor drivelines.
• Proficient in the operations, trouble shooting and repair of large tonnage chiller 460 vac VSD’s.
• You will be required to pass a knowledge examination to assess proficiencies.
• Opportunity to invest in career development. You will enroll in training programs to gain knowledge in HVAC products and sales quoting.
• You will work with other local market mechanics and when necessary, provide on-the-job training.
• Attention to detail through interpersonal, digital, and written skills. Able to write and communicate to the customer problem, cause, and corrective actions.
• Able to provide quotes to customers and participate in JCI’s Service Plus Rewards program.
• Self-starter with a passion/ desire to learn and apply on the job.
• Prioritize safety in all forms
• Universal EPA refrigerants license, applicable state or local licensing, and valid driver's license

Pay Range: $38.23 hourly rate rate in MinScale and is negotiable based off skillset level determined by the CBA/rate sheet. Benefits are provided through a local labor union aligned with a collective bargaining agreement. The posted salary range reflects the target compensation for this role.
