Job description

Overview

MasTec is seeking a skilled HVAC / Telecom Technician to join our team. The technician is responsible for performing field service maintenance, remedial, and emergency repair on telecommunication and data centers, relating to HVAC equipment.

Responsibilities

  1. Maintaining commercial cooling systems on cell tower cooling units - diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, or installing and replacing components of entire systems.
  2. Performing additional maintenance or upgrades on out-of-season equipment.
  3. Demonstrating competency with installation and diagnostics to ensure the completion of services at a professional level.
  4. Travel 100% as required.
  5. Replacing or installing forced air heating, air conditioning systems.
  6. Replacing or installing complete hydronic heating systems or refrigeration equipment.
  7. Installing or replacing duct systems in telecommunication shelters.
  8. Testing electrical circuits and components for continuity using electrical test equipment.
  9. Testing pipe or tubing joints and connections for leaks using a pressure gauge or soap-and-water solution.
  10. Layout and connect electrical wiring between controls and equipment according to wiring diagrams.
  11. Troubleshooting low voltage control systems.
  12. Understanding underground gas monitoring systems (e.g., Sierra 2400, Sierra 2450, Quest control systems).
  13. Completing all necessary safety and technical training.
  14. Maintaining safe work practices.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Prior experience with underground CEV (preferred).
  • Ability to read and understand electrical ladder schematics.
  • Basic plumbing knowledge of sump pumps.
  • Strong knowledge of pumps, dry coolers, and cooling towers.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record; ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Knowledge of HVAC codes and proper application.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and email.
  • Ability to be on call and travel extensively as needed.
  • Extensive daily travel with an independent work structure.
  • Universal refrigerant card (including R-410A), EPA 608 certifications (Types 1, 2, and 3).
  • Proficiency with PC, Microsoft Office, and internet applications.
  • Understanding of telecommunications and data processing operations.
  • Compliance with FCC/FAA/EPA/OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to read and understand general job-related documents.
  • Previous construction industry experience (preferred).
