Job summary

HVAC Mechanic at Sheriff’s Dept Worcester is responsible for installing, servicing and maintaining heating, refrigeration and air handling units throughout the facility. The role requires reading blueprints, testing systems, and coordinating inmate workers to perform repairs and maintenance tasks.

Qualifications

• High school graduate with vocational training in the field and 2–4 years of relevant experience.
• Must possess Refrigerant Practices certification, a MA Refrigeration Contractor’s License and EPA recovery certification.
• Ability to read blueprints, install and adjust heating/cooling equipment, and perform preventative maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Install, service, repair and maintain heating, refrigeration and air handling units across the facility.
• Connect thermostats, repair wiring, fabricate duct work, and test system performance.
• Inspect systems for leaks, verify compliance with plans, and adjust controls per manufacturer specs.
• Coordinate inmate workers and supervise repairs and maintenance scheduling.
