Job summary

Branch is seeking an HVAC Technician III in Roanoke to inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair a variety of HVAC systems, including air‑cooled and water‑cooled units, ensuring compliance with codes and safety standards.

You will perform preventive maintenance, assist in installations, read blueprints, work with BAS and DDC, and mentor junior technicians while traveling to job sites as required.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Air Conditioning or equivalent experience.
  • EPA Type 1 and Type 2 certification.
  • 5–15 years of relevant experience, depending on Journeyman’s/Master’s licensing.
  • Basic HVAC design calculations and understanding of DDC control systems.
  • Strong problem‑solving abilities and effective communication skills.

Position Summary
As an HVAC Technician 3, you will inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair a variety of HVAC systems, including air‑cooled and water‑cooled units. Your duties include ensuring compliance with relevant mechanical and electrical codes, performing preventive maintenance, assisting in system installations, and troubleshooting issues collaboratively with the team.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair HVAC equipment, ensuring compliance with mechanical codes and project specifications.
  • Assist or lead mechanical air‑conditioning installations, identify system issues, and make necessary adjustments or repairs.
  • Inspect and diagnose electrical equipment (under 480 V) for functionality and safety.
  • Conduct regular inspections of mechanical air‑conditioning systems using various tools.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on air‑side, cool‑side, and hot‑side portions of simple air‑conditioning equipment, and document all work.
  • Occasionally perform acid tests and oil sampling, collecting and delivering samples for analysis.
  • Execute layout and assembly of mechanical piping and components, ensuring efficient and safe system operation.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, project specifications, and technical documents to determine installation requirements.
  • Carry out wiring and conduit installations, splice and connect wires, and install electrical fixtures and control equipment.
  • Lay out, assemble, and maintain piping systems with correct pipe and fitting sizes, including copper piping and FR polyethylene tubing.
  • Collaborate with fellow HVAC technicians to share knowledge and enhance troubleshooting efforts.
  • Communicate with customers to provide service updates, address inquiries, and ensure satisfaction.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with BAS and DDC to improve service delivery.
  • Participate in job‑site safety meetings and adhere strictly to safety protocols.
  • Document work activities and assist in preparing reports for project updates and compliance.
  • Stay current with industry trends through ongoing training and licensing.
  • Conduct tests for leaks, electrical compatibility, and safety to verify regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the job site, treating tools and equipment with care.
  • Perform work orders and job tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Use critical thinking and reasoning skills to identify challenges and propose effective solutions.
  • Act as a mentor for HVAC Service Technicians I and II.
Qualifications

Compensation

Salary Min: $52,209.50
Salary Max: $89,485
Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job‑related factors.

Travel

Frequent travel to and from job‑site locations is required.

Physical Demands

Hands and fingers required for handling, feeling, or operating objects, tools, or controls. Reach with hands and arms regularly. Stand (≈70%), walk (≈20%), sit (≈10%). Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, handle, feel, talk, and hear. Carry up to 75 lbs, lift up to 100 lbs, move up to 200 lbs. Vision requirements include close, distance, midrange, color, peripheral, and depth perception.

Position Type / Hours

Full‑time, 40 hours per week.
