Aviation Authority-Tampa International Airport is seeking an HVAC Technician III to oversee skilled and unskilled trades in installation, troubleshooting, and repair of HVAC systems across our facilities. You will prioritize critical issues, train junior technicians, and oversee contractors during project inspections.

This role requires flexibility to work rotating shifts in our 24/7 operation and the ability to respond to emergency call-ins as needed.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under the general direction of the HVAC Supervisor, the HVAC Technician III oversees both skilled and unskilled trades and maintenance personnel engaged in the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of HVAC systems and related equipment within buildings and facilities. This position involves working with chiller plant operations, automated building control systems, and mechanical components. The HVAC Technician III is responsible for prioritizing work to address critical issues, providing on-the-job training to junior technicians, and oversee contractors during project inspections.

This position requires flexibility to work rotating shifts, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays, to meet the demands of our 24/7 operations.

Requires availability for emergency call-in.

COMPENSATION: $28.11 - $35.84 based on experience

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Leads and coordinates the maintenance, repair, and construction of HVAC systems and related equipment within buildings and facilities.
  • Plans, schedules, assigns, and reviews work for team members, ensuring efficient workflow and task completion.
  • Monitors and inspects work activities to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, codes, and safety standards.
  • Plans job layouts and estimates materials, determining necessary equipment and tools for HVAC maintenance tasks.
  • Creates drawings or sketches as required to assist maintenance personnel in performing work assignments.
  • Schedules and oversees preventive maintenance activities to enhance operational effectiveness and extend the lifecycle of HVAC assets.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations while performing tasks to ensure a safe working environment, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and reporting potential hazards.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required as an essential function of the position.

REQUIRED FOR ALL HCAA JOBS

  • In the event of an emergency or disaster that impacts the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority (HCAA), an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee’s department or the HCAA Emergency Operations Center (EOC). Such assignments may be before, during, or after the emergency/disaster.
  • Complies with all HCAA Policies, Procedures, and Standards.

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS)

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Four (4) years experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems.
  • Or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Must possess a valid Florida Driver License.
  • Knowledgeof codes, rules, regulations, and requirements relevant to safety and operational standards in HVAC systems.
  • Knowledgeof occupational hazards and safety regulations to ensure a safe working environment for all staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others within and outside the Authority.
  • Ability to handle restricted, sensitive, and confidential information.
  • Ability to provide outstanding customer service, serve the public, and represent the Authority courteously and professionally.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES

  • Standing and walking up to 6 hours per shift.
  • Occasional sitting.
  • Lifting up to 50 Ibs or more.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, dragging & reaching overhead.
  • Occasional kneeling & crawling.
  • Climbing up to 6 hours per shift.
  • Occasional Typing.
  • Occasional exposure to extreme weather, noxious fumes, chemicals & Insects.
  • Navigate very frequently heights and confined areas.
