The role requires rotating shifts in a 24/7 operation and emergency call-in availability. Compensation starts at $22.82 per hour and is based on experience.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • One (1) year verified work experience or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid Florida Driver License.
  • Knowledge of HVAC safety regulations and code requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.

Job description

Under the general direction of the HVAC Supervisor, the HVAC Technician I assists with t he installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems and related equipment within buildings and facilities. This role involves working with a range of equipment, including central, wall, and window air conditioning units, exhaust fans, walk-in and chest-type freezers, ice machines, and water coolers. Additionally, the HVAC Technician I assists with drawings and sketches as needed, requisitions and maintains an inventory of replacement parts, and operates various tools and equipment, such as refrigeration gauges and volt/ohm meters.

This position requires flexibility to work rotating shifts, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays, to meet the demands of our 24/7 operations.

Requires availability for emergency call-in.

COMPENSATION: $22.82 + based on experience
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs a variety of refrigeration, air conditioning, and ventilating equipment, including central and window air conditioning units, exhaust fans, freezers, ice machines, and water coolers.
  • Troubleshoots mechanical problems and implements appropriate corrective actions to restore system functionality.
  • Schedules and performs preventative maintenance on HVAC systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Prepares technical drawings and sketches as needed for system modifications or installations.
  • Operates various tools and equipment, including refrigeration gauges, volt/ohm meters, vacuum pumps, recovery systems, and welding equipment.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations while performing tasks to ensure a safe working environment, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and reporting potential hazards.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required as an essential function of the position.

REQUIRED FOR ALL HCAA JOBS
  • In the event of an emergency or disaster that impacts the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority (HCAA), an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee’s department or the HCAA Emergency Operations Center (EOC). Such assignments may be before, during, or after the emergency/disaster.
  • Complies with all HCAA Policies, Procedures, and Standards.
QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS)
  • High Scholl Diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year verified work experience.
  • Or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Must possess a valid Florida Driver License.
  • Knowledgeof codes, rules, regulations, and requirements relevant to safety and operational standards in HVAC systems.
  • Knowledgeof occupational hazards and safety regulations to ensure a safe working environment for all staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others within and outside the Authority.
  • Ability to handle restricted, sensitive, and confidential information.
  • Ability to provide outstanding customer service, serve the public, and represent the Authority courteously and professionally.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES
  • Standing and walking up to 6 hours per shift.
  • Occasional sitting.
  • Lifting up to 50 Ibs or more.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, dragging & reaching overhead.
  • Occasional kneeling & crawling.
  • Climbing up to 6 hours per shift.
  • Occasional Typing.
  • Occasional exposure to extreme weather, noxious fumes, chemicals & Insects.
  • Navigate very frequently heights and confined areas.
  • Frequent exposure to excessive noise.
  • Very frequent use of car/light truck.
