Job description

As part of a diverse community of faculty and staff representing many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University seeks a General Maintenance - HVAC & Plumbing Technician to promote its Catholic Franciscan mission by maintaining university buildings and grounds in a safe, clean, and neat condition.

Job Overview:

This role involves the operation, repair, maintenance, and installation of HVAC, refrigeration, and plumbing systems, including pools, water, drainage, sewer, and fire protection systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Support Marian University's mission by modeling Franciscan values and honoring its founding legacy.
  2. HVAC duties: Install, inspect, repair, and maintain refrigeration, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems; calibrate controls; service filters; clean ducts; interpret schematics; perform preventative maintenance; troubleshoot plumbing and steam systems.
  3. Plumbing duties: Service and repair water and steam systems; replace valves, pipes, and fixtures; install pipe assemblies; perform water treatments; respond to emergencies; maintain inventory and tools; perform general building maintenance; handle snow removal as assigned.
  4. Respond to emergency repairs and participate in on-call duties.
  5. Maintain safety, follow policies, and ensure effective communication.
  6. Engage in continuous improvement and professional development.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. and HVAC/Refrigeration certification.
  • Minimum five years of experience in HVAC and refrigeration trades.
  • Knowledge of HVAC/refrigeration systems, codes, and practices.
  • Experience with energy management systems and computer skills.
  • Verifiable journey-level experience and relevant DOL apprenticeship certification.
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to walk, bend, lift (25-50 lbs.), climb ladders, and work in tight spaces, including rooftops.
