BASIC SCOPE/PURPOSE

Responsible for smooth operation, maintenance, and repair of air conditioning, refrigeration, ventilation, and related systems. Performs these duties safely and in a timely manner with the highest quality possible.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Ability to troubleshoot, repair, diagnose, and maintain related HVAC equipment, chillers, water source equipment, electric heaters, etc.
  2. Must have knowledge of AHU, RTU, EF, chillers, boilers, duct systems, and line sets.
  3. Must have experience with test and balancing, ductwork, parts procurement, and recordkeeping.
  4. Previous experience with new equipment installation and start-up for equipment.
  5. Ability to communicate clearly with clients.
  6. Inspect all systems to detect problems and then repair them.
  7. Conduct regular maintenance and service of HVAC equipment and maintain records of the same.
  8. Use hand tools to install, connect, and adjust thermostats, humidistats, and timers.
  9. Repair or replace defective equipment, components, or wiring.
  10. Join pipes or tubing to equipment and to fuel, water, or refrigerant source, to form a complete circuit.
  11. Fabricate, assemble, and install duct work and chassis parts, using portable metal-working tools and welding equipment.
  12. Test electrical circuits and components for continuity, using electrical test equipment.
  13. Disassemble systems and clean and oil parts.
  14. Assemble, position, and mount heating or cooling equipment, following blueprints.
  15. Test pipe or tubing joints and connections for leaks, using a pressure gauge or soap-and-water solution.
  16. Install auxiliary components to heating-cooling equipment, such as expansion and discharge valves, air ducts, pipes, blowers, dampers, flues, and stokers, following blueprints.
  17. Adjust system controls to the setting recommended by the manufacturer to balance the system, using hand tools.
  18. Inspect and test the system to verify if the system is compliant with plans and specifications and to detect malfunctions.
  19. Inspect inoperative equipment to locate the source of trouble.
  20. Study blueprints to determine the configuration of heating or cooling equipment components.
  21. Using electrician hand tools, layout and connect electrical wiring between the controls and equipment, according to the wiring diagram.
  22. Reassemble equipment and start unit to test operation.
  23. Procure spare parts for replacement.
  24. Comply with all safety rules and regulations for repairing systems.
  25. Handle refrigerant removal in accordance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
  26. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  2. Must have prior HVAC experience in all aspects of commercial and industrial HVAC including copper and duct work.
  3. Must be able to read, write, and communicate clearly with supervisor/co-workers and understand direction from supervisor/client.
  4. Must be able to utilize basic math, use a calculator, read a tape measure, and operate precision measuring equipment.
  5. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb, bend, twist, stand, and reach repetitively, operate moving equipment, and work in hot/cold/damp/cramped environments.
  6. Must be able to work at heights up to 50 feet.
  7. Candidate are required to pass a drug test and Criminal background check based on job location/requirements.
