Overview
The HVAC Technician installs, operates, maintains, repairs, modifies, and replaces all types of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems and components in campus building structures.
Responsibilities
- Read, understand, and interpret blueprints, drawings, floor plans, and manufacturers operating and/or maintenance specifications as they relate to electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, special equipment, and building structures.
- Maintain and perform repairs, alter, install, and operate air delivery equipment and support components; dampers, heating and ventilating units, including heating and cooling coils, preheaters, dampers, heat exchangers, and associated control systems for existing facilities.
- Operate, maintain, and install mechanical refrigeration systems.
- Maintain and perform work on traditional and computerized control systems and components associated with HVAC delivery systems.
- Work on water treatment for various types of closed and open systems.
- Test equipment for leaks, check gauges, and repair if needed.
- Perform inspections for preventive maintenance on all HVAC equipment.
- Lubricate fans, motors, pumps, change filters and belts, and adjust controls.
- Erect and work from ladders, scaffolding, boom trucks, and similar devices.
- Respond to maintenance and repair requests from building occupants.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations and be knowledgeable of and comply with all safety and mechanical codes.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in HVAC or refrigeration equipment maintenance in a similar facility.
- Possess a valid driver’s license in the State of Alabama.
- Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, equipment, occupational hazards, and safety precautions of the trade.
- Ability to exercise tact and discretion with customers and the public, including reasonable standards of personal appearance.
- Ability to move, lift, or carry up to and occasionally over 50 lbs.
- Perform tasks that require bending, stooping, kneeling, and walking significant distances between and within buildings on campus.
- Approved accredited post-secondary vocational or technical school diploma preferred.
