Job summary

Carpenter Technology Corporation seeks a skilled HVAC technician to repair and maintain refrigeration equipment, air conditioning units, and related systems in an industrial manufacturing environment. You will diagnose faults, plan and execute repairs, and ensure maximum efficiency of all units.

The role involves installing HVAC equipment, wiring, ductwork, and testing post-installation performance. A state license and 2+ years in HVAC are required to ensure safe, compliant operation.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • AS degree in Air Conditioning & Refrigeration or equivalent experience.
  • Licensed through Alabama Board of Heating and Air Conditioning.
  • Minimum of 2 years of HVAC experience in an industrial environment.
  • Strong experience with refrigeration equipment and HVAC installation.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and maintain HVAC equipment in an industrial setting.
  • Install and wire HVAC units, including ductwork and piping where feasible.
  • Diagnose faults using test equipment and plan repair procedures.
  • Record job and time information on work orders and related forms.
  • Adhere to safety rules, maintain a clean work area, and assist other maintenance staff.
  • Provide technical assistance to Engineering for design, repair or improvement of equipment.

Job description

Principal Purpose of Position:
To repair and maintain refrigeration equipment, air conditioning units, ventilation units, heating units including gas hot water heaters, and the installation of certain HVAC equipment.
  • Receives general instructions and location of unit to be repaired from supervisor.
  • Checks unit or system and diagnoses trouble.
  • Uses various test equipment in performance of function.
  • Plans repair procedure by analyzing site conditions, blueprints, sketches, and other available information.
  • Orders stocked parts directly from stores via requisition cards or pick list.
  • Consults with and assists supervision concerning special tools and non‑stock materials and parts needed for the repair.
  • Makes necessary electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, pneumatic, and gas train system repairs.
  • After repair, tests unit or system and places it back in operation.
  • Responsible for maintaining all units at maximum efficiency.
  • Installs air conditioning units, handling the entire installation; including wiring, piping ductwork, mechanical work, etc., where feasible.
  • Responsible for proving that new air conditioning and heating systems installed by outside contractors perform according to specifications.
  • Uses aerial platform equipment when required.
  • Records job and time information on work orders, PM sheets, yellow cards, and other forms as required.
  • May be required to assist other maintenance personnel when deemed necessary by department supervision.
  • Provide technical assistance to Engineering in the design, repair, or improvement of equipment.
  • Uses maintenance information system to locate information on parts, equipment, etc.
  • Operates mobile equipment when required.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
  • Observes safety rules and regulations.
  • Performs other miscellaneous duties as directed by supervision.
  • Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.

  • Associate (AS) degree in Air Conditioning & Refrigeration or an equivalent number of years of education and relevant maintenance experience.

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant HVAC experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Must have strong experience with refrigeration equipment, air conditioning units, ventilation units, heating units including gas hot water heaters, and the installation of HVAC equipment.
