Job summary

Sandia Resort & Casino is seeking an HVAC Technician to perform repairs and routine maintenance on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems across the casino and facilities. The role requires knowledge of controls, air distribution, and seasonal system transitions, with a focus on safety and procedural compliance.

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or GED and 4 years of HVAC or Refrigeration experience, plus NM driver’s license and refrigerant/certifications.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Four (4) years HVAC or Refrigeration experience; combination of trade school/experience may substitute.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted New Mexico Driver’s License; Universal Refrigerant Certification and journeyman certifications required/preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Install and repair HVAC equipment and systems per SOPs (incl. air distribution, controls, and VAV).
  • Perform preventative maintenance and seasonal system transitions.
  • Report repair needs to supervisor and maintain inventory of parts.
  • Ensure safety and compliance with Pueblo of Sandia and Facilities procedures.
  • Assist with major component replacement and complex diagnostics.

Job description

Position Summary

Under direct supervision of the Facilities Supervisor, the HVAC Technician performs the overall repairs of the Casino and related facilities heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment, in accordance with management directives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Under direct supervision, installs new HVAC equipment, performs routine repairs and maintenance on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems including any air distribution machinery, pneumatic and digital control, hot and chilled water distribution, and variable air volume systems.
  2. Complies with Pueblo, Resort & Casino, and Facilities Department standard operating procedures.
  3. Under an emergency evacuation and fire, evacuates the building or voluntarily assists the Security Department in emergency evacuation procedures.
  4. Utilizes a high lift for maintenance tasks when required.
  5. Reports equipment repair requirements to supervisor.
  6. Performs preventative maintenance, adjustments, and basic repairs on HVAC systems.
  7. Performs seasonal overhauls and transitions of systems to and from heating/cooling.
  8. Coordinates major component replacement and evaluation of complex system problems.
  9. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes workplace safety.
  10. Responsible for maintaining an adequate inventory of heating, ventilation and air condition small repair inventory.
  11. Repairs, installs, replaces and tests electrical circuits, equipment and appliances using appropriate tools and testing equipment.
  12. Troubleshoots and repairs electric controls, motor control panels and programmable logic controls.
  13. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  14. Responsibility Assist Supervisor’s in maintaining inventory control of equipment, tools, parts, and supplies.
  15. Participates in Facilities Safety program and is responsible to complete all safety training and promote a safe work environment for team members and guests.
  16. Works in a composite crew and is required to assist Hard Maintenance, Electrical, Plumbing, Kitchen Repair technicians and/or other trades in accomplishing their duties on a routine basis.
  17. Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility for all team members and are expected to report to work based upon the assigned schedule each day in accordance with the Attendance Policy for Pueblo of Sandia.

Qualifications
Education and Experience

Required:

  1. High School Diploma or GED certification.
  2. Four (4) years of HVAC or Refrigeration experience.

Any combination of trade school and/or experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required experience.

License/Certifications/Registrations
  1. Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted New Mexico Driver’s License.
  2. The following certification is required prior to employment start date:
    • Universal Refrigerant Certification
    • JR: Journeyman refrigeration
    • JSM: Journeyman sheet metal (preferred)
    • JP: Journeyman plumber (preferred)
    • BO1/BO2: Boiler operation (low or high pressure) JG: Journeyman gas fitters (preferred).
  3. Must be able to successfully pass a stringent background investigation.
  4. Will require a pre‑employment and random drug screening.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Working Conditions Required
  1. Duties are performed indoors and outdoors as required. Outdoor duties are subject to temperature extremes and inclement weather. Work apparel including standard work uniform issued by employer, may require employee to wear other apparel at his own expense to compensate for temperature conditions.
  2. Subject to potential hazards such as cleaning solvents and cleaning compounds.
  3. Subject to potential hazards such as heights, motorized equipment, power tools and loud noise. Personal protection equipment will be required depending on the task.
  4. Additional potential hazards include exposure to infections, diseases, fumes, odors, dust, mist, and gases.
  5. Duties may involve walking, climbing, crawling, standing for long periods of time, sitting, crouching, kneeling, running, and the ability to assume a prone position.
  6. Work hours and/or work schedules are subject to change on short notice based solely on business needs. At times overtime work is required as approved by management.
  7. Must be able to work long hours under stressful conditions.
  8. Considerable work is physical activity. Requires heavy physical work requiring ability to lift 75 pounds.
