HVAC System Mechanic II
SUMMARY

A skilled position which involves the repair, installation, and general maintenance of HVAC and refrigeration equipment. This position will require the ability to work independently and may involve the supervision, training, and directing of other personnel. The employee is required to have a valid Alabama driver's license.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 10+ years related experience.
  • Working knowledge of the standards, practices, processes, tools, and materials of the refrigeration and air conditioning trade.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the refrigeration and air conditioning trade.
  • Ability to make accurate time and material estimates and to perform work requiring mechanical aptitude.
  • General knowledge of state and local building codes.
  • Requires a minimum Type I, Type II, and CFC certification Universal Certification is preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand routine non-technical instructions.
  • Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the system's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the system.

REQUIRED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Assists with the repairs, installation, and general maintenance of HVAC and refrigeration equipment such as air cooled chillers, heat pumps, gas fired furnaces, central units, walk-in freezers/coolers, ice machines, and other related commercial kitchen equipment.
  2. Reads and works from blueprints.
  3. Maintains and exhibits a high level of ethical and professional standards as expected of all personnel.
  4. Participates in in-service training as assigned.
  5. Other duties being assigned as necessary.

  3. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
  4. The employee is required to walk.
  5. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to extreme cold or risk of electrical shock.

The noise level in the work environment is usually noisy.
