Job summary

Insight Global is seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer to test and validate mechanical equipment and systems, ensuring proper operation.

You will respond to warranty calls, coordinate with manufacturers and project managers, and develop commissioning plans. Strong HVAC, safety, and documentation skills are required for on-site work with project teams.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with trade/technical training is required.
• 4 to 10 years’ experience diagnosing and solving HVAC operational or construction-related problems.
• OSHA-10 certification (must be obtained within 6 months if not already).
• OSHA-30 certification (must be obtained within 6 months if not already).
• Understanding of hydronic/chilled water systems.
• Knowledge of HVAC systems, controls, and EMS/BMS systems.
• Experience with commercial HVAC equipment incl. chillers, cooling towers, boilers, VAVs.
• Strong organizational and planning skills.
• Proficiency with MS Office and willingness to learn new software.
• Employment contingent upon access requirements at jobsite.

Responsibilities

• Provide field representation and observation during installation, testing and commissioning.
• Assist in development and execution of commissioning plans for each project.
• Review and execute manufacturer test plans and procedures.
• Assist project management in scheduling startup and commissioning activities.
• Understand startup and commissioning requirements per project specs and documents.
• Attend job site meetings to understand scope, schedule and issues.
• Create and review commissioning documents and equipment submittals.
• Execute FIV, OPT and FPT tests.
• Maintain deficiency log and ensure timely closure.
• Follow all safety policies and procedures.
• Troubleshoot issues during startup or warranty period.

Job description

Test and validate mechanical equipment and systems to ensure proper and optimal functioning. Understand and execute project start up and commissioning plan and complete efficiently.

Respond to owner's warranty calls for initial assessment and troubleshooting. Work with manufacturers and project managers to complete warranty related documentation and claims.

Maintain relationships with assigned owner's construction and facilities teams. Take ownership in the success of projects.

• Provide field representation and observation as required by the project testing/CX plan during installation, testing and commissioning phases of projects.
• Assist in the development, documentation, and execution of each project’s specific commissioning plan.
• Obtain, thoroughly review and execute manufacture’s documentation for test plans and procedures.
• Assist project management in scheduling and execution of the startup and commissioning process.
• Understand each project’s specific startup and commissioning requirements as defined in the project specifications, contract documents and commissioning plan.
• Attend job site meetings to properly understand project scope, schedule and issues to be resolved.
• Create internal commissioning documents needed for project and review project equipment submittal and pertinent manufacturer data.
• Execute the Field installed verification (FIV), Operational Performance Test (OPT) and Functional performance Test. (FPT)
• Create, maintain, and support completion of ongoing deficiency log.
• Follow all company, department, and project specific policies, procedures, standards, etc.
• Participate in safety activities and follow safety protocols as directed by safety personnel.
• Perform additional assignments as requested/needed.
• Troubleshoot issues arriving during startup or warranty period.

Qualifications

• High school degree or equivalent; successful completion of a trade/technical training program
• 4 to 10 years’ experience in diagnosing and solving operational and/or construction-related problems pertaining to HVAC systems
• OSHA-10 certification (if not currently certified, must be obtained within six (6) months from date of hire)
• OSHA-30 certification (if not currently certified, must be obtained within six (6) months from date of hire)
• Understanding of hydronic/chilled water systems
• Knowledge of HVAC systems & controls (technology, equipment, design and operational methods DDC systems)
• Knowledge of Commercial HVAC equipment including, but not limited to, chillers, cooling towers, boilers, VAV’s and their related systems and EMS/BMS controls
• Excellent organizational and planning skills
• Ability to identify, troubleshoot and resolve problems.
• MS Office skills and ability/desire to learn new software
