About The Role

As a CBRE HVAC Engineer, you will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, and optimization of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and associated mechanical systems across a portfolio of commercial, industrial, and data center facilities. You will help ensure critical building systems operate safely, efficiently, and reliably while delivering exceptional service to clients. This role is part of the Global Workplace Solutions (GWS) Engineering & Technical Services Team, which is responsible for maintaining building infrastructure, supporting critical facility operations, and creating safe, reliable, and comfortable environments for clients and building occupants. The ideal candidate brings strong troubleshooting skills, deep knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, and experience supporting mission‑critical environments. This position supports multiple facilities throughout the Buffalo market and requires participation in a 24x7x365 on‑call rotation to ensure uninterrupted operation of critical infrastructure.

What You’ll Do
  • Deliver exceptional customer service while maintaining building system reliability and operational excellence across a portfolio of commercial, industrial, and data center facilities.
  • Inspect, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC, refrigeration, and mechanical equipment, including chillers, cooling towers, air handling units, rooftop units (RTUs), VAV systems, heat pumps, and associated auxiliary equipment.
  • Monitor and control building systems through Niagara, Andover Controls, JACE, Tridium, and other building automation platforms to optimize equipment performance and facility operations.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance activities in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, site procedures, and CBRE standards.
  • Identify equipment deficiencies and document findings, corrective actions, and maintenance activities within the Corrigo work order management system.
  • Diagnose mechanical and control system issues and implement effective solutions to minimize downtime and maintain critical operations.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and oversee inspections, testing, and services performed by contractors and vendors, including fire life safety, suppression systems, gas, water, and other regulated building systems.
  • Review equipment condition and performance data and recommend repairs, upgrades, and capital improvements to improve reliability and efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, compliance documentation, and maintenance logs to support regulatory requirements and operational excellence.
  • Respond to emergency service calls and participate in required on‑call coverage, including weekends and holidays, to support critical facility operations.
What You’ll Need
  • High school diploma or GED required. Associate’s degree, technical degree, or vocational training in HVAC, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience operating, maintaining, and repairing commercial, industrial, or mission‑critical HVAC systems.
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification required.
  • Refrigeration Certification required.
  • Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Demonstrated experience working with chillers, cooling towers, air handlers, RTUs, VAV systems, refrigeration systems, heat pumps, and related mechanical equipment.
  • Experience using Niagara, Andover, JACE, Tridium, or comparable Building Automation Systems (BAS).
  • Proficiency with CMMS platforms, including work order management and documentation systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and problem‑solving skills with the ability to work independently in critical environments.
  • Experience coordinating and overseeing third‑party contractors and service vendors.
  • Knowledge of applicable building codes, environmental regulations, and safety standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Ability to safely perform physical work, including climbing ladders, lifting equipment, working in mechanical spaces, and responding to facility emergencies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • New York State Stationary Engineer License, where applicable.
  • HVAC certification from an accredited trade school or technical program.
  • Building Operator Certification (BOC).
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or equivalent industry certification.
  • Experience supporting data centers, critical facilities, healthcare, manufacturing, higher education, or large commercial properties.
