Job summary

Trane Technologies in Albany, NY is seeking an HVAC Service Estimator to join our team. You will work with Trane Account Managers and building owners to develop quotes for service projects and long-term service agreements, delivering energy-efficient solutions.

The ideal candidate has a degree or HVAC certification and 3–5 years of related experience, with strong cost estimation, scope development, and vendor negotiation skills to ensure on-time, on-budget project completion.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Associate degree in engineering, engineering technology or related field, or HVAC Technician experience.
• 3–5 years of related experience or a technical certificate with significant field experience.
• Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems in construction.

Responsibilities

• Create quotes for service agreements and quoted works.
• Estimate costs for materials, subcontractors, equipment, labor, and other activities.
• Develop detailed cost estimates with scope, exclusions, vendor quotes, and proposed approach.
• Take-off and pricing of purchased equipment to ensure accuracy of quantity and configuration.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities and stay current with industry standards.
• Define scope of work for sub-contractors and negotiate prices.
• Hold pre-bid meetings with Account Managers to review scope and strategy.

What’s in it for you:

Trane in Albany, NY is hiring for a HVAC Service Estimator to join our team. In this role, you will be will be working with Trane Account Managers and building owners providing estimates and quotes for HVAC service projects and agreements. Trane always focuses on a total solution to provide our customers with the most energy efficient buildings!

What you will do:

• Create quotes for service agreements and all quoted works in support of our Service Account Managers and Controls Service Account Managers.

• Responsible for the cost estimates consisting of materials, sub-contractors, purchased equipment, labor (start-up, service work, etc.), and other construction-related activities created by personnel to assist Account Managers in bidding on or determining price of project.

• Develops detailed scope based on Account Managers design-build scope. Creates detailed cost estimates including system sketches, scope definition, exceptions/exclusions, preliminary proposal, vendor/sub-contractor quotes, and points list.

• Responsible for the take-off and pricing of purchased equipment to ensure accuracy of quantity, size, configuration, voltage, options, etc.

• Responsible for identifying possible cost saving opportunities and/or risk items that will occur on various projects. Maintains competitive advantage by staying current with industry standards.

• Develops the scope of work for sub-contractors. Optimizes job costs by negotiating prices with vendors/sub-contractors through quotations for materials and services.

• Responsible for holding job pre-bid meeting with Account Managers to review scope, strategy, etc.

What you will bring:

• Bachelor’s or Associates degree in engineering, engineering technology or related study preferred with minimum of three (3) to five (5) years’ related experience; or technical certificate with five (5) years related experience; or HVAC Technician experience with combination of education and related field experience.

• Candidates without a 4-year degree are encouraged to apply; we prioritize practical experience, relevant skills, and alignment with our leadership principles.

• Working knowledge of all facets of construction including mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems, etc. preferred.

• Experience withfinancial and business acumen and a history of running projects on time and on budget.

• Proven experience prioritizing tasks in order to meet tight deadlines within a high-paced environment with attention to detail.

• Experience working directly with building owners is a plus.

• Flexibility to work overtime/weekends, as required.

• Must possess a valid driver’s license for a minimum of 12 months, with no major or frequent traffic violations included, but not limited to: : DUI, Hit & Run, License Suspension, Reckless/Careless Driving or multiple smaller infractions or preventable collisions in the previous 3 years.

$72,611.66 - $116,700.00
