Job summary

Yale NewHaven Health is seeking a skilled Mechanical/HVAC technician to join the Plant Operations team. You will install, repair, and maintain refrigerators, HVAC and related equipment throughout the hospital complex, performing preventive maintenance and troubleshooting per manufacturer specs.

The role requires 3–5 years of hands-on experience, CT State S or D license with refrigerant reclaimer certificate, EPA certification, and strong problem-solving abilities in HVAC controls.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma with formal training in refrigeration, heating, and air conditioning.
• Minimum 3–5 years experience with installation, service and repair of refrigeration, air conditioning and heating systems.
• CT State S and/or D license and a refrigerant reclaimer certificate are required; a P license is preferred.
• EPA technician certification (Type 2 or Universal) preferred. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot HVAC controls.

Responsibilities

• Perform lubrication, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting per manufacturer specifications.
• Carry beeper/radio and respond to emergency calls as requested.
• Fill out and submit preventive maintenance sheets daily.
• Ensure repairs are completed professionally and timely.
• Utilize proper techniques to evaluate and analyze problems.
• Conserve energy by turning lights off when leaving mechanical rooms.

Under the general supervision of the Manager of Plant Operations, performs a variety of duties in and around the building of the Hospital complex. Installs, repairs and maintains refrigerators, HVAC air conditioning and heating equipment, patient care refrigeration equipment, ice machines and mechanical equipment such as heating and ventilating systems, air conditioning, refrigeration equipment and other building systems. Performs lubrication, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting to all Hospital mechanical systems and electro-mechanical equipment according to manufacturer's specifications. Installs mechanical equipment as directed by supervisor.

Responsibilities

• 1.Perform a variety of duties in and around the building of the Hospital complex. Installs, repairs and maintains refrigerators, HVAC air conditioning and heating equipment, patient care refrigeration equipment, ice machines and mechanical equipment such as heating and ventilating systems, air conditioning, refrigeration equipment and other building systems.
• 1.1Maintains and repairs complete heating and ventilating systems encompassing pumps, machinery engine motors, air and vacuum compressors and iron sheet metal work according to established procedures and manufacturer's specifications.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Position requires graduation from high school plus formal training in refrigeration, heating, and air/conditioning. Training in electrical, electronic and pneumatic circuits and controls is required.

EXPERIENCE

Minimum 3-5 years experience with extensive exposure to installation, service and repair of refrigeration, air conditioning and heating systems.

LICENSURE

CT State S and/or D license and a refrigerant reclaimer certificate are required. In addition, a P license is preferred.

SPECIAL SKILLS

This position requires a EPA technician certification, Type 2 or Universal (preferred). Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair HVAC controls is required. Ability to modify or redesign parts of a system to enhance system performance is required.

PHYSICAL DEMAND

Physical effort of lifting 50#s, ladder work to 20 feet, bending, kneeling and roof work is required. Minor stress due to job requirements and responsibilities.
