Job summary

Southeastern Louisiana University’s Department of Physical Plant Services seeks an HVAC Refrigeration Mechanic to install, repair and maintain campus HVAC and refrigeration systems. Responsibilities include diagnosing electrical and mechanical faults, cleaning, adjusting and repairing equipment to ensure reliable operation.

Requires two years of experience, a valid driver’s license, and EPA Section 608 Type IV Universal Certification (Southeastern allows up to 30 days to obtain).

Qualifications

• Two years of experience or training in installation and/or maintenance of heating, ventilating, or air conditioning systems.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• EPA 608 Type IV Universal Certification required; candidate may have up to 30 days to acquire.
• Southeastern Defensive Driving Course certification is required or anticipated.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair and maintain HVAC systems and refrigeration units campus-wide.
• Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults in HVAC equipment.
• Perform cleaning, adjusting and repair of HVAC systems to ensure proper operation.
• Follow safety and regulatory requirements in servicing equipment.

This position is responsible for a variety of tasks relating to the installation, repairs, and maintenance of HVAC systems and refrigeration units across the campus. Duties include diagnosing electrical and mechanical faults and performing tasks such as cleaning, adjusting, and repairing HVAC systems. Mon – Thurs 6:30 am – 4:00 pm with a 45-minute lunch; Fri 6:30 am – 11:30 am Hourly Rate: $21.05EXAMS, LICENSE, AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSApplicants must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to be certified through the Southeastern Defensive Driving CourseAppropriate EPA refrigerant recycling and recovery certification for technicians (as required under Section 608 of the Clean Air Act, 1990). Southeastern requires a Type IV, Universal Certification.
