Job summary

The Jamar Company is hiring a Journeyman HVAC‑R Technician in Grand Rapids, MN. You will install, service, and repair HVAC‑R systems for commercial and industrial customers, reading drawings and applying safety standards.

You must complete a 1–2 year HVAC program and hold CFC/EPA Universal Certification. Expect varied shifts, on‑call readiness, and a collaborative, safety‑focused team culture.

Qualifications

• Completion of a one- or two-year technical program in HVAC Service/Technology plus the journeyman qualification.
• CFC/EPA Universal Certification required.
• Proficient reading and interpretation of drawings, specifications, and industry standards.
• Flexibility to work varying shifts, including weekends, holidays, and on-call.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC-R systems for commercial/industrial customers.
• Diagnose and repair electronic, mechanical, and electrical components within HVAC-R systems.
• Interpret work orders and enter/close work orders using service software.
• Operate a variety of tools and equipment for daily operations.
• Request and requisition repair parts, materials, and equipment as needed.
• Adhere to safety procedures and company policies.
• Take on additional duties as assigned and maintain safety practices.
• Support continuous improvement and teamwork across the organization.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC‑R systems for commercial and industrial customers.
• Diagnose and repair electronic, mechanical, and electrical components within HVAC‑R systems.
• Interpret work orders and carry out assigned tasks with minimal direction. Accurately enter and close work orders using the Service software platform.
• Operate a variety of tools, equipment, and machines necessary for daily operations.
• Request and requisition repair parts, materials, and equipment as needed.
• Perform all work in compliance with established safety procedures, company policies, and industry standards.
• Take on additional assignments and responsibilities as needed or requested.
• Consistently adhere to all safety guidelines and best practices.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

• Completion of a one‑or two‑year technical program in HVAC Service/Technology PLUS the corresponding HVAC experience required for Journeyman qualification.
• Must possess CFC/EPA Universal Certification.
• Proficient in HVAC‑R equipment and techniques, with the ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and applicable industry standards.
• Flexibility to work varying shifts, including weekends, holidays, and emergency on‑call assignments as needed.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to represent the company professionally, ethically, and in alignment with our values and mission.
• Computer proficiency with the ability to learn and use a service software platform.

Other Details:

• This position will support the Grand Rapids, MN territory and surrounding areas.
• Must join Local 589 union.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license and remain in good standing in accordance with company driving policy.

• Pay: $18.49 - $46.12per hour depending on classification and union wage step per Local 589 Collective Bargaining Agreement.
• Benefits are provided through Local 589 union organization.
