Valiant is looking for an HVAC/R Journeyman to join our team. In this role you will perform a variety of HVAC/R trade functions such as the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment (all grades of refrigerants). Work involves installing or repairing a wide range of equipment including chiller, AHU’s, cooling towers, VAV’s, EAV’s, CAV’s, rooftop and DX units, steam generators, laboratory environmental / walk-in boxes (refrigerators and freezers), incubators, humidifiers, exhaust systems, laboratory fume hoods, and BAS systems. You will work from blueprints, drawings, layouts, or other specifications to locate and diagnose failed components in applicable environmental systems or equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Directly communicate with management, teammates and customers in meetings, face-to-face or written communications.
- Troubleshoot equipment, perform project take-offs and solicit quotations to support the procurement process.
- Execute scheduled and unscheduled tasks in a timely manner with a strong focus on quality.
- Perform maintenance on all types of HVAC/R equipment.
- Communicate complex repair and replacement projects, maintenance schedules, work plans, SOWs, and detailed cost estimates, and serve as the point of contact for work control.
- Work closely with the chief engineer and project manager, ensuring records and documentation are kept up-to-date.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Certification Requirements
- Current journeyman’s license (Virginia) and ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily.
- High school diploma or GED; or three years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years’ experience in commercial or industrial facilities.
- Strong understanding of refrigeration theory.
- Knowledge of current codes and standard practices.
- Solid fundamental understanding of maintenance, troubleshooting and repair principles.
- Experience with HVAC/R maintenance, troubleshooting and repair.
Desired Qualification
- Experience with military and/or DoD facilities.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to meet all physical requirements related to the scope of work.
- Regular standing, walking, hand use, reaching, talking and hearing.
- Climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling as required.
- Ability to work in a sitting position for 8 or more hours per day.
- Ability to lift up to 10 pounds on a regular basis and up to 50 pounds as needed.
- Ability to travel to job locations by automobile.
