Job description

The HVAC/R Instructor delivers facilitated instruction from the HVAC/R Technician Training Program. This is a specialized technical training role covering refrigeration fundamentals, commercial and industrial HVAC systems operation, electrical systems for HVAC/R, system troubleshooting, and EPA 608 preparation. Students are provided entry level knowledge and skills labs to prepare them as ready technicians for industrial and commercial HVAC/R. The HVAC/R Instructor brings both technical depth and instructional skill to a program that directly impacts our client’s ability to fill technician pipeline gaps in their distribution center operations and other business locations.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver assigned program curriculum in classroom and lab settings with technical accuracy and instructional clarity.
  • Follow the curriculum as designed; content is not substituted or modified without approval from the Senior Director or B2B Curriculum Manager.
  • Adapt delivery style to meet the needs of adult learners across varying levels of prior experience without compromising technical content or pacing.
  • Prepare for each session in advance.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and student progress documentation throughout each cohort.
  • Identify students who are struggling and intervene early.
  • Set up and manage the lab environment for each session; equipment operational, materials staged, space organized before students arrive.
  • Enforce all safety protocols without exception. PPE, OSHA compliance, and lab conduct standards are non-negotiable.
  • Reset the lab at the conclusion of each cohort to full operational condition.
  • Maintain the lab to a standard that reflects professional pride, not minimum compliance.
  • Hold students to the standard the program requires.
  • Create a learning environment that is structured, respectful, and demanding. Adult learners with little to no field experience respond to instructors who know their material and expect instructor effort.
  • Manage classroom and lab conduct consistently; address disruption or disengagement directly and professionally.
  • Provide students with clear, actionable feedback throughout the program, not only at formal evaluation points.
  • Conduct yourself as a representative of StrataTech in every interaction.
  • Communicate with client personnel professionally and within the scope of your role; questions or concerns that exceed that scope are escalated to the Senior Director within the same business day.
  • Complete all reporting, documentation, and administrative requirements on time.
  • Communicate scheduling needs, equipment issues, or student concerns to the Senior Director proactively.
  • Deliver refrigeration fundamentals including refrigerant properties, refrigeration cycle theory, system components and refrigerant safety and handling in compliance with EPA 608 standards.
  • Instruct on commercial HVAC system operation; rooftop units, air handling units, chilled water systems, and building automation controls as applicable to client operations.
  • Deliver electrical systems content for HVAC/R including motor controls, contactors, relays, thermostat wiring, and control board diagnostics.
  • Conduct hands‑on labs using commercial HVAC training units; students must be able to identify components, trace refrigerant circuits, perform system startup and shutdown, and read system pressures and temperatures.
  • Deliver system troubleshooting labs with structured diagnostic methodology; students must complete the program able to follow a logical fault isolation process rather than substituting parts.
  • Instruct on LOTO procedures specific to HVAC/R equipment, electrical safety, and refrigerant safety protocols at every onsite session.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED minimum with related field experience.
  • Ability to work individually and within a group.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • 5 or more years of hands‑on field experience in the assigned technical discipline within the past 10 years.
  • Proficiency with basic digital tools including documentation platforms and learning management systems.
  • EPA 608 Universal certification is required.
  • Hands‑on experience with commercial or industrial HVAC/R systems. Residential-only experience does not meet the requirement for this role.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC/R electrical systems including motor controls and control board diagnostics.
  • Ability to safely handle refrigerants in compliance with EPA standards and demonstrate safe practices to students.
Benefits
  • Competitive benefits package including Medical, Dental, and Vision (with Company paid employee only dental & vision option) plus access to virtual doctor’s visits.
  • Flexible Spending Account and Health Savings Account options.
  • 401(k) Employer Match.
  • Short and Long Term Disability – Company Paid.
  • Basic Life Insurance – Company Paid.
  • 12 Paid Holidays.
  • Your Birthday off – Company Paid.
  • 3 weeks PTO – 1st yr. (accrual).
  • Tuition Reimbursement.
  • Employee referral bonus program.
  • Headspace membership – Company Paid.
  • Marquee Health Well-Being Program – Company Paid.
