Job Summary

Under general supervision, HVAC-R assistant supervisors oversee installation, maintenance, repair, and renovation of commercial heating, air-conditioning, and refrigeration equipment in MCPS facilities. They are responsible for the overall performance of the HVAC-R team and may perform duties of HVAC-R I or II technicians. They help plan, schedule, and coordinate daily operations, assign service requests, maintain work records, coordinate parts and materials, and assist in managing the mechanical maintenance program. They also recruit, evaluate, develop, and recognize technicians, enforce policies, and maintain safe work environments.

Physical Demands and Requirements
  • Work involves exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals, biohazards, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noises, and requires heavy physical activity including lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Work environment may involve dangerous materials and situations requiring safety precautions and protective equipment.
  • Ability to work beyond 40 hours as needed.
Additional Information

Wage range: $33.69 - $48.63 based on experience.

Location: Gaithersburg, Full-time, 12 months, Day shift.

Qualifications include knowledge of building mechanical systems, supervision skills, and relevant certifications (EPA universal CFC license, HVAC Journeyman license). Education includes a High School diploma or GED, with coursework or trade training in related fields, plus considerable experience in maintenance and supervision.
