Job summary

Blue Cliff College in Mississippi Gulfport invites applications for an HVAC Instructor. The role combines classroom and laboratory teaching to prepare students for entry-level employment in heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration.

You will use a mix of demonstrations, lectures and hands-on practice to build technical proficiency and professional habits. We seek candidates with EPA/NATE certification and a relevant Associates degree, plus several years of industry experience.

Qualifications

  • Must have EPA/NATE HVAC certification.
  • Associates degree preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of related HVAC experience.
  • Teaching experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver performance-based HVAC instruction in classroom and lab.
  • Organize practical demonstrations and lectures following curriculum.
  • Instruct students on use, maintenance and safety of HVAC tools and equipment.
  • Assess student progress and maintain attendance/records.
  • Advise students on academics and attendance with proper documentation.
  • Collaborate with Student Services to support retention and success.
  • Participate in meetings and professional development.

Job description

The HVAC Instructor is responsible for providing quality instruction to students in both classroom and laboratory settings in the industrial and commercial maintenance trades in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) program. The instructor ensures that students acquire the knowledge, technical skills, and professional behaviors necessary for entry-level employment in the HVAC industry.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Performs performance-based objectives and outlines for course of study following curriculum guidelines and requirements of the college and state and federal initiatives.
  • Organizes program of practical and technical instruction, including demonstrations of skills required in the industrial and commercial maintenance professions, and lectures on theory, techniques, and terminology; prepares outline of instructional programs and studies and assembles materials to be presented.
  • Instructs students in subject areas (i.e., use, maintenance and the safe operation of tools and equipment, codes or regulations related to the industrial and commercial maintenance programs
  • Instructs students in the importance of accuracy, neatness, efficiency, resourcefulness, and good work habits in obtaining employment in the areas of industrial and commercial maintenance.
  • Assigns lessons to students and corrects homework; administers tests to evaluate achievement of students in technical knowledge and practical skills.
  • Keeps records of daily attendance and student progress; reports to Lead Instructor and Registrar.
  • Presents subject matter to students, utilizing a variety of methods and techniques, such as lectures, discussions, or demonstrations; ensures use of classroom time is organized and that instruction and clean-up (if applicable) can be accomplished within the allotted time.
  • Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts; responds to basic student questions; may initiate study groups in preparation for examinations.
  • Enforces classroom protocols, rules, and regulations; maintains classroom discipline; utilizes effective classroom management techniques.
  • Attends meetings and training per requirements of Lead Instructoror Director of Education; participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and professional development workshops.
  • Conduct class evaluations and complete other college evaluations in accordance with college policy.
  • Monitor student academic progress through tracking systems, implementing interventions when needed.
  • Advise students on academic and attendance issues with proper documentation.
  • Collaborate with Student Services to develop retention strategies that support student success and completion.
  • Participate in new student orientation and promote equitable access to academic resources.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be a certified HVAC Technician (EPA, NATE)
  • Assocates degree preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of related work experience in residential, commercial, and industrial heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration.
  • Some level of teaching or training experience is preferred but not required.
