Job summary

AHRI, a trade association representing HVACR manufacturers, is seeking an HVAC Program Engineer to manage certification programs and working groups. The role oversees testing activities, governance, and standards development for certification and compliance programs.

The position is on-site in Arlington, VA with a competitive salary and full benefits package, including employer contributions to health accounts and retirement plans.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • At least 2 years in HVACR or related field.
  • Familiar with product performance testing standards.
  • Ability to define, plan, and execute projects with minimal supervision.
  • LEED, PE, or EIT desired but not required.
  • Experience leading meetings and presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead product testing with participants, AHRI teams, and labs to complete market surveillance testing.
  • Convene Compliance Committee meetings to review program performance and updates.
  • Lead working group meetings with member companies to complete projects and tasks.
  • Represent AHRI at technical conferences and meetings, preparing supporting documents.
  • Collaborate with groups to develop performance rating standards and guidelines.

Job description

The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) is one of the largest trade associations in the nation, representing more than 300 heating, ventilation, air-conditioning (HVAC), water heating, and commercial refrigeration manufacturers from all parts of the world. Ensuring human comfort, productivity, and safety while practicing environmental stewardship is the mission of AHRI. Through our certification program, standards, advocacy, and other activities, we strive to help save energy, improve productivity, and ensure a better environment.

HVAC Program Engineer

The HVAC Program Engineer’s primary responsibility is the management of assigned HVACR industry working groups and associated certification programs. The Program Operations Team will oversee and coordinate the work needed to sustain and grow AHRI's HVACR certification and compliance activities.

Responsibilities
  • Lead product testing with certification participants, regional AHRI teams, and third‑party laboratories to ensure accurate and timely completion of market surveillance testing.
  • Convene Compliance Committee meetings to review annual program performance, maintain and update governing documents, and make recommendations for program changes or new programs.
  • Lead working group meetings with member companies to complete projects and tasks.
  • Represent AHRI in technical conferences, workshops, meetings, and other venues, including preparing technical documents supporting company positions.
  • Work with technical working groups to develop performance rating standards and guidelines.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a nationally accredited four‑year college or university.
  • Minimum of two years of relevant experience (preferably in the HVACR industry).
  • Working understanding of product performance testing including associated standards and methods of test.
  • Demonstrated ability to define, plan, and execute project deliverables with minimal supervision.
  • LEED, PE, or EIT desired but not required.
  • Experience leading or facilitating meetings and public speaking/presentations.

AHRI offers a competitive salary and a full benefits package including employer contributions to HSA plans, 401(k), and Roth(k) plans. Employees are eligible to participate in the alternate workplace program after 90 days of employment with a performance rating of meets expectations or above. The salary range for this position is $75,000 to $98,000 based on relevant industry experience. This position does not have an option to work remotely.
