Job summary

Jones Lang LaSalle Incorporated (JLL) in Mobile, Alabama is seeking an Operating Engineer - HVAC to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair industrial HVAC and environmental control systems supporting large-scale manufacturing and hangar operations.

The role requires hands-on work with AHUs, chillers, boilers, and BAS; candidates should have 6–8 years of experience, HVAC drawings literacy, EPA 608 Type II certification, and strong documentation skills.

Qualifications

  • 6–8 years of experience maintaining and repairing industrial or commercial HVAC systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret HVAC drawings, P&IDs, control schematics, and manuals.
  • Experience supporting mission-critical facilities.
  • EPA 608 Type II Certification.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, monitoring, and repairs to industrial HVAC, mechanical, and control systems.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot AHUs, chillers, cooling towers, boilers, and BAS interfaces.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance including cleaning, inspecting, calibrating, and replacing components.
  • Monitor system performance and record readings; adjust as needed for proper operation.
  • Troubleshoot controls, sensors, actuators, and automation interfaces.
  • Coordinate and oversee contracted HVAC maintenance and specialty service providers.
  • Maintain preventative maintenance programs, inventory control, and technical documentation.
  • Comply with safety policies for hazardous materials; keep a clean, safe workplace.
  • Perform periodic checks of tools and instrumentation.
  • Work conditions may include heat, cold, noise, and day/night shifts.

Operating Engineer - HVAC (Industrial Systems)
What this job involves –

The Operating Engineer (HVAC) will focus on operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial HVAC and environmental control systems that support large-scale manufacturing and hangar operations. The role requires strong technical expertise in industrial and commercial HVAC systems, with the ability to support mission-critical environments where temperature, humidity, and airflow control are essential to production and asset protection.

What is your day to day?
  • Perform maintenance, monitoring, and repairs to industrial HVAC, mechanical, and control systems to keep systems operating within required performance standards.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot large-scale air handling units (AHUs), chillers, cooling towers, boilers, make-up air units, exhaust systems, and environmental control systems.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance including cleaning, inspecting, calibrating, and replacing components to maintain HVAC systems at optimum performance levels.
  • Monitor system performance, record operational readings, and make adjustments as required to ensure proper operation.
  • Troubleshoot controls, sensors, actuators, and automation interfaces associated with HVAC systems.
  • Coordinate and oversee contracted HVAC maintenance and specialty service providers.
  • Maintain responsibility for preventative maintenance programs, inventory control, and technical documentation related to HVAC systems.
  • Comply with departmental policies for the safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials; maintain a clean and safe workplace.
  • Perform periodic checks of tools and instrumentation.
  • Required to bend, sit, kneel, squat, stand, reach, and work at heights as needed to access HVAC equipment.
  • May be required to work in environments exposed to heat, cold, noise, and both day and night-time hours.
Required Qualifications
  • 6–8 years of experience maintaining and repairing industrial or commercial HVAC systems.
  • Strong ability to analyze HVAC system operation, diagnose malfunctions, and implement corrective actions.
  • Working knowledge of: Industrial HVAC systems and controls.
  • Chilled water, hot water, and DX systems.
  • Air distribution and pressurization systems.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret HVAC drawings, P&IDs, control schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Experience supporting continuous-operation or mission-critical facilities.
  • EPA 608 Type II Certification.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
  • EPA 608 Universal Certification.
  • Direct experience with LG, VG, and Dycon HVAC systems used in industrial or aerospace environments.
  • Experience with building automation systems (BAS) and HVAC controls integration.
  • State-recognized HVAC, mechanical, or industrial license.
  • Two years of technical or trade school training in HVAC, refrigeration, or mechanical systems.

Shift: 2nd Shift
