Job description

Hunton Services, a division of the Hunton Group, (www.huntongroup.com), is seeking to hire an HVAC Mechanical Engineer/Designer to serve as a technical resource to the Engineered Products business. In this role, the selected individual will design custom HVAC equipment, coordinate materials selection, and provide technical consultation to customers by communicating overall project concepts for our commercial projects. This position requires a strong understanding of HVAC mechanical, cooling and heating systems, control and power systems, and a high level of oral and written correspondence with our Engineering team and customers.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing project requirements, constraints, and responsibilities to meet the customer's system design, installation, and maintenance requirements while meeting code compliance.
  • Work with team designing custom HVAC equipment focused on the mechanical and HVAC components.
    • Equipment includes air handler units, explosion proof equipment, pressurization units, air- and water-cooled package units, rental units, skid mounted redundant systems, and packaged chiller systems.
  • Select mechanical material and components required to meet project specifications for customers.
  • Design cooling or heating systems such as refrigerant and water piping, ductwork, and control/power systems for mechanical HVAC systems
  • Develop 2D & 3D component and equipment designs, using AutoDesk software.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate engineering documents for each job throughout its duration.
  • Develop HVAC, Mechanical, and Structural Bills of Material (BOM).

Areas of Growth:

  • Learn from current team about the electrical & controls components of custom HVAC equipment.
  • Learn to estimate the cost of designed equipment by sourcing material and equipment from vendors and calculating required labor hours to install.
  • Consult with facilities staff, building trades, and head engineers to determine needs, concerns, goals, and suggested modifications.
  • Provide ongoing technical consultation to customers for project concepts, layouts, and component designs by developing comprehensive drawing packages and submittals.

Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of HVAC fundamentals, including psychometrics, load estimating, equipment selection and system design; cooling or heating systems; control and power systems related to HVAC mechanical systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, AutoDesk AUTOCAD, AutoDesk Inventor, Solid Works or similar software
  • Experience designing chilled water piping systems
  • Experience designing structural steel systems
  • Ability to read and interpret systems engineering drawings
  • Knowledge of mechanical codes
