Job summary

Bechtel is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer for a major New Albany, Ohio project. You will lead the design, development and evaluation of mechanical components and processes, conducting field investigations and client interviews to determine work scope and cost estimates for the project’s mechanical aspects.

You will collaborate with Procurement, Construction, Startup, ES&H and Project Controls to align tasks, prepare bid analyses, and support the mechanical engineering schedule.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive work experience, including supervision.

Project Overview

Bechtel is building a 2.5 million-square-foot semiconductor manufacturing facility in New Albany, Ohio, including 600,000 square feet of cleanroom space. The project will drive regional growth by creating jobs and strengthening the workforce through partnerships with building trades, suppliers, and local educational institutions, helping establish a long-term talent pipeline and position the area as a hub for advanced manufacturing.

Job Summary

In this role, you will conduct field investigations and client interviews to determine work scope and cost estimates for a project’s mechanical aspects. You will lead design, development, modification, and evaluation of mechanical components and processes. Your recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project’s mechanical aspects are met.

Major Responsibilities

• Directs and manages mechanical design and engineering activities for projects or scopes of medium to large scale.
• Manages complex interactions among multiple Bechtel entities or client-mandated collaborations with other contractors as required.
• Experience on Dry Systems (HVAC, Cleanrooms, etc.) on Semiconductor and/or Datacenter projects will be an added advantage.
• In depth knowledge of equipment packages such as Air Handling Systems, Air Condensing units, Variable Air, Volume Units and Cleanroom Recirculation Air and Exhaust Systems.
• Good working knowledge of American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), SMACNA and International Mechanical Code (IMC) standards for HVAC and Air Handling Units.
• Experience in PFD/P&IDs, Schematics, HVAC heat / cooling load calculations, HVAC ducting layouts, equipment datasheets, specifications, material requisitions and supplier submittal reviews.
• Supports inputs to the engineering components of a mechanical estimate including quantities, job hours and budgets for both proposals and execution phases.
• Performs and manages the work in accordance with relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design guides and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
• Supports mechanical engineering schedule in collaboration with all engineering disciplines.
• Collaborates actively with Procurement, Construction, Startup, Environmental Safety and Health (ES&H), and Project Controls to align assigned mechanical engineering tasks.
• Prepares / Approves bid analyses and recommendations for the procurement of assigned mechanical equipment, materials, and services.
• Responsible for addressing and resolving mechanical engineering-related field or jobsite issues.
• Conduct site visits as necessary to facilitate the exchange of information.
• Supports Technical Risk Assessments, safety protocols and ensures mechanical engineering procedures follow the project's Quality Assurance plan and procedures.
• Effectively conveys complex technical matters and offers suitable recommendations to clients, project and functional management.

Education And Experience Requirements

Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge And Skills

• A recognized degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university.
• Professional license in a recognized licensing board (or international equivalent) is preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive work experience, including supervision, preferably in project and staff design engineering but may include other relevant types of engineering including startup, field engineering or plant operation in large industrial plants utilities, process plants or engineering/construction firms.
• Technical knowledge of related mechanical engineering systems, engineering calculations using standard software, applications of engineering and construction methods and materials, and engineering application of computers.
• Knowledge of related construction practices and the economics involved and current knowledge of new methods of design and construction.
• Knowledgeable in industry and regulatory codes and standards, as well as facilitating coordination for necessary approvals.
• Proficient in both oral and written communication.
• Experience with modular design projects is highly desirable.
• Prior experience in planning and executing greenfield or brownfield projects in one or more of the following market segments: Semiconductor, AI Data Center, Life Sciences / Pharma or EV Batteries.
• Must have the right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship.
