The Facilities Management Division seeks a qualified HVAC Mechanic to provide maintenance at our West District Maintenance Office. Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining and repairing mechanical equipment in commercial buildings, including building control systems.
  • Installing, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing cooling and heating equipment, including split systems and large commercial chilled water systems.
  • Diagnosing electrical, mechanical, and controls issues for reciprocating and centrifugal chillers up to 1500 tons.
  • Repairing or replacing pneumatic and electronic controllers.
  • Inspecting and adjusting HVAC equipment for optimal operation.

Job Description
General Functions

Perform skilled work in operating, maintaining, and repairing refrigeration, air conditioning, and heating equipment. Work involves installing, maintaining, and repairing various HVAC systems, from domestic units to large commercial systems. Work is performed under general supervision with review upon completion.

Representative Duties
  • Maintaining boilers and mechanical equipment in energy plants.
  • Installing and repairing HVAC systems, including large chilled water systems.
  • Diagnosing issues with reciprocating and centrifugal systems up to 1500 tons.
  • Repairing controllers and inspecting HVAC equipment for efficiency.
  • Reading blueprints and schematics for repairs and installations.
  • Potentially installing new HVAC units and ductwork.
  • Work on emergency standby rotations.
Minimum Qualifications

Trade school graduation and two years of HVAC operation and maintenance experience, or equivalent experience. Must hold Universal EPA Section 608 certification or Type I and II certifications, with a requirement to obtain Type I if only holding Type II. Valid Florida Driver's License required. May need to perform emergency standby duties.

Preferences
  • Skilled journeyman HVAC experience with commercial systems.
  • Knowledge of building maintenance and automation systems.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and in a team environment.
Additional Details

Application deadline: 05/31/2025. Salary: $20.82 - $27.16/hr. Benefits include holidays, paid time off, insurance, retirement, wellness programs, tuition reimbursement, and more. Position may require background checks and drug screening. Work hours are Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with potential for after-hours and weekend work. Initial assignment at West District, with possible relocation based on operational needs.
