The Chronicle of Higher Education, Inc. is seeking an experienced facilities technician to maintain and operate the HVAC and utility systems across a large campus.
You will manage boilers, refrigeration equipment, pumps, and building automation to ensure reliable operations. Candidates should have an AAS in refrigeration or equivalent, with at least five years of HVAC maintenance experience, and possess required licenses or be prepared to obtain them within the specified timeframe.
Education: Associated Applied Science Degree inRefrigeration, Air Condition and Heating and or Trade schoolequivalent .
Experience: Five years in mechanical maintenance andoperation of HVAC and related equipment in a 750,000 plus sq ftfacility with a mixed-use distribution. Skilled knowledge in high-and low-pressure boilers, hermetic and centrifugal refrigerationmachines, plant water management, and energy management/buildingautomation systems. Ability to read blueprints and wiring diagrams.Proficient in the following trades: electrical, refrigeration, andpiping.
Licensing:
Valid Illinois Drivers’ License
Elgin or Chicago Stationary Engineer license
Refrigeration License
Pool Operator License (obtain within one year of hire)
Responsible for skilled utilities work in the performance of a comprehensive heating, ventilating and air conditioning system and water, storm drain, natural gas, and building automation.
Responsible for operations of a mixed-use utility over a campusstyle facility.
Informs co-workers regarding procedures and/orders of work orders(e.g. computerized energy management systems, researchparts/equipment, etc.) for the purpose of providing information formaking decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying withhealth, safety, building regulations.
Prepares documentation (e.g. records of refrigerants, dailypaperwork, time and materials, specifications, etc.) as requiredfor the purpose of providing written support in compliance withregulations and/or conveying information.
Install new parts and equipment as required.
Inspects College property and observes activities on collegeproperty for unsafe conditions which may lead to injury, takesappropriate action to correct any unsafe practice or condition andreports all other potential safety hazards to supervisor.
Proficient in rebuilding pumps.
Responsible for housekeeping, cleaning and painting of respectiveareas and equipment
Responsible for snow and ice removal duties.
Additional duties as assigned.
Employee must be on a 7 day/24hour on call weekly rotation foremergency events.
Operates motorized vehicles including but not limited to trucks,vans, gators, and lifts.
