Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions Include:

  • Install, replace, maintain and repair air-conditioning equipment, water cooling equipment, and temperature control instruments and devices
  • Troubleshoot (i.e. determine source of problem and make corrections as required)
  • Lubricate and repair cooling towers
  • Package air conditioner and related equipment
  • Operate computer driven energy management system controlling both mechanical building systems and/or energy conservation control systems
  • Operate plant chiller microprocessor controllers and all plant/process heating equipment
  • Operate power house equipment such as boilers (including high pressure), air compressors, combustion control panels, pumps, etc. used to supply steam, water and compressed air for manufacturing and HVAC
  • Schedule firing procedures and equipment repairs
  • Log equipment functions, fuel consumption and other pertinent data
  • Make minor repairs, if necessary, to insure uninterrupted operations
  • Make periodic checks to insure compliance with all safety and operating requirements
  • Inspect and perform periodic PM's for PIV, sprinkler risers and hydrants
  • Perform monthly fire extinguisher inspections
  • May also make routine adjustments and temporary repairs of HVAC equipment
  • Train equivalent and lower rated personnel as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Requires stationary engineer's license (Low Pressure Boiler)
  • Requires Universal Refrigerant Certification/License
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write and understand oral and written instructions
  • Demonstrated ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using decimals and fractions
  • Demonstrated ability to read, understand, and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot
  • Experience in boiler house operations
  • Must be free of physical impairments which would limit the individual's ability to safely work from platforms and ladders; must not have acrophobia
  • Have a thorough working knowledge of the principles of heating, air-conditioning and computer-driven control systems
  • Able to discriminate visually to perform various checks*
  • Able to discriminate auditorially to perform noise checks*
  • Bending motions from waist required*
  • Able to handle/lift various parts/assemblies*
  • Repetitive hand and wrist motion required*
  • Extended period of standing/sitting*
