Job summary

Piedmont Service Group is seeking an HVAC Mechanic Level II to independently perform preventive maintenance, repairs, startup and commissioning of HVAC systems. You will read mechanical drawings and electrical schematics, manage ductwork and refrigerant handling, and mentor Level I technicians.

The role requires 3+ years in HVAC, a trade certificate, and strong communication with customers. Our Virginia presence supports local client service and safety-focused operations.

Qualifications

• HVAC vocational, job-related experience and/or trade certificate(s).
• 3+ years HVAC experience plus two years troubleshooting.
• High school graduate or equivalent; industry knowledge may substitute.
• Ability to communicate services performed with customers.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine preventive and predictive maintenance and service repairs on HVAC systems without supervision.
• Analyze, troubleshoot, repair, rebuild, startup, adjust and replace mechanical equipment and control components.
• Identify predictive failures and provide spot quotes.
• Start up and commissioning of standard HVAC equipment.
• Diagnosis and troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical components.
• Replace or repair defective components including motors, controls, and wiring.
• Test systems to ensure proper functioning after service.
• Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer specs.
• Maintain accurate service records and documentation.
• Follow safety protocols.
• Mentor Level I HVAC Mechanics.
• Utilize DST Technology.

Summary

The HVAC Mechanic, Level II, is responsible for independently performing routine preventive and predictive maintenance, as well as service repairs, on HVAC systems. This role includes the startup and commissioning of standard HVAC equipment to ensure proper operation and system performance. The position requires the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and electrical schematics, as well as a strong understanding of ductwork, sheet metal construction, and refrigerant management practices. In addition to technical responsibilities, Level II Mechanics provide guidance and mentorship to Level I HVAC Mechanics to support skill development and overall team effectiveness.

Requirements

General Knowledge Requirements

• HVAC vocational, job-related experience and/or trade certificate(s)
• 3+ years HVAC experience plus two years demonstrated troubleshooting experience
• High school graduate or equivalent (Demonstrated industry knowledge and experience may be substituted)
• Ability to communicate services performed with customers

Equipment-Specific Knowledge Requirements

• Furnaces, HVAC/R, cooling towers, controls, CRAC units, BMS, VAV systems

Technical Knowledge Requirements

• HVAC/R systems and installations, the ability to read and understand mechanical drawings, electrical schematics
• Ductwork, sheet metal construction, refrigerant management

Certifications

• Universal CFC Certification

Preferred Qualifications

• HVAC/R degree / certificate or equivalent

Physical Requirements

• Lifting
• Bending, climbing, pulling, pushing, balancing, kneeling, twisting and standing
• Perform service and repair functions from ladders and overhead
• Carry and set up ladders up to 32 ft. in height (step or extension) as required
• Climbing stairs, ladders, catwalks, etc.
• Work from mechanical lifts
