Pay Grade/Pay Range: Minimum: $21.25 - Midpoint: $26.59 (Hourly N6)



Department/Organization: 504106 - Refrigeration & Air Conditioning



Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30am to 4:00pm; some shift work & extended hours



Job Summary: The HVAC Mechanic I assists in the operation, maintenance, and repair of commercial and industrial cooling, heating, and refrigeration equipment to include water chillers, cooling towers, pumps, lab equipment, ventilation, air distribution systems, and associated controls. Makes routine inspections. Interprets plans and blueprints. Drives from site to site.



Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of HVAC experience; OR vocational degree or certificate in HVAC. EPA Section 608 HVAC Universal Certification. Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.



Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have EPA approved Universal Refrigerant Certification.

Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.



Skills and Knowledge: Ability to lift, handle and maneuver the tools, materials, and supplies of the job. Ability to read, interpret, and troubleshoot blueprints, drawings, manuals, maps, schematics, and plans and do material takeoffs. Good people skills. Ability to work effectively in a team environment. Good written and verbal communications skills.
