Job Title

HVAC Mechanic

Job Description Summary

Duties will include (but not be limited to) assisting crew technicians in the installation, maintenance, operation, and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment related to HVAC systems. Inspect all HVAC, mechanical, and electrical equipment controls, gauges, distribution panels, and other components to ensure proper operation.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Train and respond to plant emergency issues within the guidelines of the PEO (Plant Emergency Operations).
  • Maintain all HVAC and HVAC-related facilities and utility systems supporting 24/7 operation of a high-volume diesel engine manufacturing plant.
  • Perform multi-craft tasks associated with HVAC maintenance.
  • Participate in preventive maintenance activities such as filtration system changes, greasing, and oiling of motors and gears.
  • Inspect and adjust belts and pulleys, replace bearings, and perform other repairs.
  • Handle preventive maintenance and equipment downtime procedures.
  • Identify root causes of problems and implement countermeasures to prevent recurrence.
  • Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on pumps, conveying systems, piping, etc.
  • Lead daily turnover meetings and make necessary log entries.
Non-Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Maintain positive relationships with customers and employees.
  • Respond to customer calls.
  • Demonstrate the use of hand/power tools.
  • Complete administrative duties accurately and timely.
  • Manage materials requests and check off received materials.
  • Monitor jobs in progress and completed jobs, as documented.
  • Perform tasks safely, effectively, and efficiently.
  • Maintain facilities, tools, and equipment in good order and clean.
Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience)

High school diploma or GED. 1-3 months related experience/training or equivalent. Must have universal certification under section 608 of the Clean Air Act from the State Board of Refrigeration Examiners.

Must pass pre-employment physical. Ability to read and interpret safety rules, instructions, manuals; write routine reports; speak effectively; participate in development of work procedures.

Valid driver’s license required for Mobile Equipment License.

  • Ability to operate a forklift and man-lifts.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

Regular use of hands, reaching, sitting, climbing, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, hearing, tasting, and smelling. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work from elevated areas.

Work environment includes outside weather, humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes, extreme temperatures, electrical hazards, vibration, and loud noise.
