Georgetown University is seeking an HVAC Mechanic to perform maintenance and repairs on heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment across university facilities. The role includes daily work orders, preventative maintenance, and system overhauls to ensure safe, comfortable buildings for students and staff.

The incumbent will diagnose issues, operate DDC/EMS controls, and apply pneumatic control knowledge, with a requirement for five years of relevant experience and EPA

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum five years’ experience in commercial and residential HVAC/refrigeration
  • Universal EPA – CFC certification
  • Completion of apprenticeship or four years of equivalent training in HVAC/ventilating and air conditioning and refrigeration trade
  • General knowledge of DDC/EMS system and computer controls
  • Good working knowledge of pneumatic controls
  • Computer literacy
  • A valid driver’s permit from MD, DC, or VA

Responsibilities

  • Manage all repairs/maintenance of HVAC and refrigeration systems and components up to DDC/energy management panels
  • Perform journeyman level maintenance and repairs in accordance with industry/trade practices
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and unscheduled or special work such as overhauls, replacements, surveys and similar projects
  • Use standard tools, equipment, materials and supplies of the trade with safety rules followed

Duties

The HVAC Mechanic performs technical trades work to maintain heating, ventilating and air conditioning and/or refrigeration equipment as part of the services provided by the facilities management department to maintain University buildings. The incumbent provides daily maintenance support to building users to respond to calls for service, making scheduled preventative maintenance inspections and similar service. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage all repairs/maintenance of HVAC and refrigeration systems and components up to DDC/energy management panels (including, but not limited to all work associated with pneumatic thermostats, calibrating; pneumatic actuators, main air distribution lines; branch air distribution lines; all pneumatic end devices, compressors, dryers, filters, and PRV stations; VAV Controls).
  • Perform journeyman level maintenance and repairs in accordance with industry/trade practices.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and unscheduled or special work such as overhauls, replacements, surveys and similar projects.
  • Use all standard tools, equipment, materials and supplies of the trade, observing all safety rules, regulations, and precautions in performing their duties.
Work Interactions

Depending upon area assigned, this position reports directly to the Mechanical Shop Supervisor or one of the Zone Managers or to the Preventive Maintenance Manager along with tradesmen and trades helpers. The work of the incumbents provides a direct service to the department to ensure a comfortable, safe and clean environment in which the University community can live, learn and work.
