Job description

Museum Visitors Center, 5600 Fannin St, Houston, TX 77004, USA

Responsibilities
  • Assists HVAC Mechanic Supervisor in providing adequate HVAC (heating, cooling, and plumbing) and maintaining equipment for the museum physical plants and other properties
  • Completes preventative maintenance on various HVAC equipment and troubleshoots HVAC equipment on all museum properties
  • Installs, replaces, or repairs fans, motors, thermostats, fuses, filters, bearings, valves, controls, belts, gaskets and other equipment as necessary
  • Assists the other divisions in Engineering and Facilities as necessary on large projects
  • Operates various aerial lifts (20ft to 85ft) and forklift to complete tasks
  • Drives cargo van, box truck, and pickup truck to and from work sites
  • As part of the essential staff response team - protects museum properties during natural disasters (hurricanes, floods, ice storms, etc.)
  • Completes setup and breakdown for events as scheduled
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
  • Excellent problem‑solving and analytical skills
  • Extensive knowledge of HVAC systems and equipment
  • Ability to use power and hand tools
  • Ability to use thermometers, pressure gauges, and other testing devices to evaluate HVAC system
  • Ability to read operation and repair manuals for HVAC systems
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Excellent mechanical skills
  • Excellent communication skills, as required to interact with others
  • Able to read building prints
  • Must be available to work paid overtime with advance notice
  • Willing and able to respond to emergency calls when off duty
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to focus on details; effectively prioritize and handle multiple tasks
  • Strong enthusiasm for learning and rigorous on‑the‑job training
  • Able to lift 75 pounds, work bending and stooping, and climb a ladder
  • Have a valid Texas driver license and good driving record
  • Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Education and Experience:
  • 5 to 10 years commercial HVAC service experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Related trade school certification a plus
  • Experience with METASYS preferred
  • Previous maintenance experience, which includes work with boilers, chillers, plumbing, or other mechanical equipment also preferred
