HVAC Mechanic (FMSC-2025-22987)

Bowhead seeks an HVAC Mechanic to join our team in Dahlgren, VA, supporting the NSWC Dahlgren Facilities Maintenance Support contract. The HVAC Mechanic is responsible for general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings.

Responsibilities

• Install, service, and repair environmental-control systems in buildings.
• Utilize knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting, and structural layout.
• Mount compressor and condenser units, use hand tools, follow blueprints or specifications.
• Fabricate, assemble, and install ductwork and chassis parts, using tools and welding equipment.
• Cut and bend tubing, thread pipes, and join tubing or pipes to refrigerating units.
• Solder joints, install valves, and test systems for leaks.
• Repair air conditioning systems, including DDC HVAC systems.
• Estimate material costs and project timelines.
• Connect motors, compressors, controls, and fans to control panels and power sources.
• Install filters, inject refrigerant, and test system operation.
• Replace defective electrical components.
• Service air conditioners up to twenty tons capacity.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED, with at least 3 years' experience in residential and commercial HVAC.
• Valid driver's license.
• Preferred: Emergency Management/Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) experience.

Physical Demands

• Lift up to 50 pounds.
• Stand and walk for extended periods.
• Twist, bend, and squat periodically.

Security Clearance

Must have or obtain a Secret level security clearance. US Citizenship required.
