Job description

Position

Title: HVAC Mechanic, Classification: Non-Exempt, Location: Plant Services Department, Reports to: Regional Coordinator.

Compensation

Salary: $18.64 per hour - Entry Level.

Employment Status

Work days: 249 per year.

Position Status

Position will remain open until filled.

Primary Function

The HVAC Mechanic is responsible for maintaining heating and air conditioning systems, identifying repair and/or replacement needs, providing information on proper equipment use, and ensuring adequate materials are available to complete assignments in a timely manner.

Requirements
  • Educational Level: High School Diploma or GED preferred; job-related education with study in a related area.
  • Certification/License: Valid EPA Type II license required; valid driver's license.
  • Experience: Minimum three years HVAC experience or technical college certificate/diploma in HVAC.
  • Physical Activities: Routine physical activities required; able to work at heights using extension ladder, hydraulic lift or scaffolding; able to lift up to 30 lbs. unassisted.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Written and oral communication; knowledge of electrical codes, safety measures, and power requirements.
Essential Duties
  1. Daily attendance and punctuality to ensure work unit goals.
  2. Coordinate with administration and other trades for efficient completion of projects/work orders.
  3. Diagnose problems/failures in heating/air conditioning/refrigeration systems to identify repair/replacement needs.
  4. Install heating/air conditioning/refrigeration equipment and systems to provide comfort inside facilities.
  5. Maintain tools and equipment to ensure availability in safe operational condition.
  6. Prepare documentation to provide written support and convey information.
  7. Request equipment and supplies to maintain inventory and ensure required items are available.
  8. Respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns.
  9. Transport various items (e.g., tools, equipment, supplies) to ensure availability of materials at job sites.
  10. Work on and repair various systems (e.g., gauges, pumps, motors, chillers) to restore equipment to good working condition.
  11. Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient, effective functioning of the work unit.
